This record encapsulates a unit who have perfected their chemistry so much that they are approaching their prime with precision, passion and grace. As the ladies continue to propel forward, it’s important to remember Under My Influence as a bold collection of thoughts and experiences that tap into a generation of women who maybe don’t even know they need it.

The Aces are reaching for the stars on this release, and the glimmers of what they could be further down the road burn bright. Unfortunately the album is brought back to Earth when their usually precise hooks and focused direction are left behind in favour of lackadaisical experimentation – the candid lyrics manage to cut through, but it's easy to imagine this album being seen as transitionary in hindsight.

There are also welcome flashes of their own identity. ... At 14 songs, however, that saccharine sheen starts to grate a little. [Aug 2020, p.102]

‘Under My Influence’ is a bold undertaking, but, at times, it feels unfinished. While many singles and supplementary songs showcase the band’s talent, much of the record weighs in as forgettable filler sounds that take some time in getting accustomed to.

This became my favorite release of the year at first listen, there's not one bad song! New Emotion, Kelly, I Can Break Your Heart Too, LostThis became my favorite release of the year at first listen, there's not one bad song! New Emotion, Kelly, I Can Break Your Heart Too, Lost Angeles and Not Enough are masterpieces. I like this better than their debut, it sounds more mature and well produced. I hope they can find some success, they deserve to be more known!! Expand
