The quality control isn't quite as tight. Some songs meander long after making their point. A greater position of the sequence, however, is filled with indestructible art that consoles, challenges, and invigorates with gospel, doo wop, highlife, psychedelicized garage rock, dub, and post-punk funk all filtered with uncommon aptitude through vintage outsider soul. Highlights are abundant.

All we know is that this is their third album and it was released just as the BLM movement resurfaced after George Floyd's murder. This work is a journey through funk, R&B, and gospel [don't be surprised if you find repetitive phrases like a church sermon], some of the music genres with Sub-Saharan African roots. It is complacent to say that this work is succulent, although it is also necessary to hear it; nobody should avoid it because there are many things to learn and apply in our life.

The use of jazz and soft vocalsreally dark and certain album that truly conveys the struggles of being black or being oppressed in general. The use of jazz and soft vocals might not be expected of music so explosive but that's wat it it is. But NOT violent. It's an archive of struggling and one we'll be visiting for year's. The highlight," hard life" turns a mantra into a battle cry then a funeral procession. The closest this album gets to an all out protest song. The delicate and beautiful centerpiece, "wild fire ", spins a melancholy tail of a love burning up and grief. Cleo soul completely intrigues in this and many other songs. This outfit is obviously one made up of veterans that keep expelling great album after great album. I can't wait to look back on this snapshot of our current time. Full Review »
