    The songs are brilliant: Ivey's songwriting is biting, sarcastic, and direct, and he sings them with a flat cynicism that adds depth. The arrangements here often go a little too far though, adding large bands, backup singers, and occasionally strings.     There's no showing off or extended solos here, except for Ivey's lengthy vocal lines.
