Throughout, Campbell touches on one of his greatest lyrical strengths--his attention to detail--to bring scenes to life, while also being acutely aware of the underlying emotion and backstory just beyond the setting. It’s devastatingly effective.

Half-panicked, half-anthemic ‘Runnin’ Scared’ aside, this is all a little meek, but that’s kind of the idea.

It's effective if unspectacular, but it's the lyrics that turn this into something special. [5 Jul 2014, p.54]

The story itself is compelling, but musically the album hovers somewhere between bland acoustic roots pop and overly earnest alt-rock.
