Blom's buoyant indie-rock - a perfect vehicle for the everyday anxieties that power her songs - quickly proves hard to resist. [Nov 2021, p.84]

Pip Blom haven’t changed their sound, but they do feel like they’ve got to know it better.

It’s a record that will become like a familiar friend over repeated listens, and shows how the band have built elegantly on the foundations of their debut, fizzing with self-belief at every turn.

It’s an album that provides a deft mix of happy/sad songs that run the full gamut of emotions from euphoria to anger to the more reflective and wistful numbers.

The changes are subtle and even though the group's sound is a little less thrillingly raw here, they make up for it with stranger melodies and vocals. Overall, a solid effort from a band with the potential to make a great record someday.
  6. 70
Welcome Break is an album that asks listeners not to scour for small faults, but to devote themselves fully to the ambiance of this simultaneously retro-sounding, yet forward-looking album.

Nothing is disguised. However, that does mean there isn’t very much to dig through, and this isn’t necessarily an album that rewards repeat listening.
