It’s the sound of a freewheeling star at the top of her game, reimagining rock history in her own platinum image.

Lambert is an outlaw, and she’s also an album artist, and Wildcard proves she’s one who will be rebelling, experimenting and rocking the hell out for many years to come.

Taken on an individual basis, each track is clever and playful, yet the cumulative effect of Wildcard is ever so slightly slight, a possible side effect of an album meant to be nothing but a party. Perhaps that may mean that Wildcard isn't as emotionally resonant as some of Lambert's other records, but there's no denying she's delivered exactly what she intended with this album: It's one hell of a good time.

Endearing. ... Some more specificity to her lyrics might have been affecting, but the broad metaphors she couches her life lessons in are entertaining.

Musically, Wildcard is all over the place00and that might be its best quality. She ties all these various sounds and styles and settings together by sheer force of will and one of Nashville's mightiest twangs. [Dec 2019, p.26]

“Wildcard” isn’t as intimate as her 2016 double album about her divorce, “The Weight of These Wings,” or as musically adventurous as its predecessor, “Platinum.” What it does have is some sharp songwriting.

For an album named Wildcard, there doesn't seem to a standout track. There are some very songs with strong emotional appeal and literate, artful lyrics such as the reflective "Bluebird", the love story "Fire Escape", the teary "Dark Bars", and even the comic "Pretty Bitchin'".

Settling Down and Bluebird are amazing. Not a bad song on this gem of an album. Expand

It has a nice mix for everyone, including pop sounding songs (All Comes Out in the Wash), sassy fun songs (Too Pretty for Prison), and more traditional country (Tequila Does). All of the songs are well -written as Miranda’s songs often are, and include witty lyrics. I tend to enjoy the more country rock songs (Locomotive, Tequila Does, Holy Water) but damn if I don’t love Pretty **** Looking forward to diving into all the tracks, and seeing her for the first time in concert early next year. Everyone should definitely give this album a listen. Expand

Sempre gostei de Miranda desde que ouvi a faixa 'Kerosene' do começo de sua carreira, então não tem como mais não me surpreender pois a cada trabalho ela se entrega mais e mais, ela é demais, a princesa do country!!
