These clear, plucky songs may not be terribly adventurous for the most part, but they do feel like the ambitious work of an artist broadening their scope.

Of the moments on the album that invoke the titular themes and deliver on Gartland’s stylistic ambitions, most are mired in lyrical clichés and abstractions. ... If you can look past the awkwardness of some of Gartland’s lyrics, her emotionally charged vocal delivery and attention to sonic detail are admittedly enchanting.

What sets this one apart, more than the songs themselves is the arrangements and ultimately the production. This aspect of the record is top end and helps the good songs really stand out from the crowd of indie female artists making waves. Lyrically, it's very much a zeitgeist album and musically it is sharp. Still, the songs are really good rather than truly great. It's the production that gives this lift off. Full Review »

I feel relatable when listening to it. This is one of exotic records released this year. So fascinated and proud of you, Orla. Congrats on your debut!
