Too many songs begin with the hook, to get you through the revenue-generating 30-second mark without any of that scary rapping. When the hook is strong, that’s just about acceptable. Too often, it makes Tinie sound like his own guest rapper.

When the south Londoner mimics the new age of rap convincingly: Something Special is back-to-basics grime; If You Know embraces the groggy R&B-trap of Drake. But it’s when he moves more brazenly into pop proper that Tempah really shines.

At 17 songs, it's inevitable that not every track will appeal to every listener.

Easier to admire than to care deeply about, Youth should confirm his status as the go-to rapper for people who don’t really like rap music.

Here, his pool of talent is confirmed in the spare xylophone beat to “Youth” and the ingenious, slinky grooves to “Lightwork” and “They Don’t Know”, a frisky pass-the-mic showcase between Tinie, Kid Ink, Stefflon Don and AoD. But given the sharp drop-off in notable guest talent this time round, compared with Demonstration, he certainly needs to make changes.

All too often, tracks feel like connectors – carriages to transport listeners between the singles. There’s little narrative, few definitive themes, but there are lots of guests.

Tinie Tempah with Youth, he is trying to present new sound to his audience, such as the opening track "Youth", really fresh, the beat just really fresh which is produce by Nana Rogues who previously produced his smash-hit "Girls Like". Tracks like "Something Special & Holy Moly" bring "Junk Food Mixtape" atmosphere in whole album. Other tracks like Cameras, They Don't Know for example just sound repetitive for audience and mainly sound like other US rappers in order to grab the Radio attention. However, to me, this album "Youth" is just new level by Tinie Tempah, some beats / tracks just sound fresh and new to our ears and others just sound familiar to us. Full Review »
