“Ugh” is a “real album,” with a unified yet ever-changing sound and vibe — and one that initially feels familiar but shifts shapes on closer inspection, and is harder to pin down than it first might seem.

She’s past and future, concurrently. With that in mind, the Swedish-Iranian singer may have released one of the definitive breakup records of the year.

With each album Snoh Aalegra shows progression. From Don’t Explain, to FEELS to this latest release, Snoh has taken parts from previous releases to create this record whilst keeping her authenticity.

The feels remain noxious and suffocating, but as she embraces the delirium, the “ughs” slowly turn into insights.

Like the best of old-school R&B, - Ugh, those feels again has a heavy hip-hop influence and an aura of feel-good innocence throughout, even on darker songs like "Love Like That" and the infectious, call-and-response number "Nothing to Me."

With buttery vocals and perfectly-paired suave jazz instrumentals, - Ugh, those feels again is slick in its depiction of enigmatic love. While it may not be breaking boundaries sonically, the album’s saving grace is Aalegra’s thoughtful lyricism in which she encapsulates fear, loss, heartbreak and self-growth with tenacity and an empathetic tone.

Despite the title's hint at unruly emotion, the surface of Aalegra's music stays as polished as her voice. [Sep 2019, p.108]

Swedish singer and song-writter Snoh Aalegra offers us a piece of her tenderness and questioning meanderings. Instruments and rhythmsSwedish singer and song-writter Snoh Aalegra offers us a piece of her tenderness and questioning meanderings. Instruments and rhythms beautifully put her sweet voice on a pedestal. During the listenting to '-Ugh, those feels again' we navigate in intense waters of changing relationships. The artist does not hesitate to express herself about these relationships that torment her or make her feel a lot of different things. (Just as she sings: ''cause you make me feel like whoa' in the 'Whoa' song.) Snoh Aalegra depicts for fourty minutes the struggles she encountered about forgetting someone (or not), falling in love, or ending a relationship. She finds a way to sing these difficulties by using her amazing and caressing voice.
This project is not only a 'match up versus break up' album, it is also a dancing one. In some tracks the artist manages to highlight the magic of meeting other people, speaking with them and opening their hearts. In these moments it feels like the time stopped, letting you the opportunity to get an overview of your own relationships, to celebrate and brainstorm about them. This album does not let go of the idea that love is what binds us all together. In conclusion: a magical voice delivering to us a deep message.
