The remastering job here is superb and the nine previously unheard tracks are an joy to discover--1992-2001 is nigh-on perfect as an introduction to one of pop's best ever kept secrets. Unlock it and wander all year long, then seek out what full-lengths you can find. In Acetone, you've got yourself a lifelong companion.

This collection shows that any fan of the slower side of Yo La Tengo, Luna, Mazzy Star and other bands that mine that Velvet Underground (circa their third album) derived slow, droning sound mixed with country-rock influence owe it to themselves to check this out.

1992-2001 functions as a perfect introduction to the band's catalog, bundling tracks from its five albums with nine unreleased songs. [No. 147, p.53]

It's easy to see why those indie luminaries were so deeply seduced by Acetone's languid and ever-so lovely drawing together of Doug Yule-era Velvets, Spiritualized and Low. [Oct 2017, p.106]

1992 – 2001 does a fine job of collating their best moments from a career that spawned four albums and two EPs, as well as offering nine unreleased tracks from the hours of music they recorded in an empty bedroom that served as a regular rehearsal space.

The album zeroes in on what the band did best (and what sounds best today), its non-chronological sequence making songs recorded several years apart sound as if they sprung from the same session.

Acetone may have preferred to follow the silent way, but they were the strong, silent types, which makes the contents of 1992 – 2001 resonate so strongly now.

Though Acetone wouldn’t seem a likely band for such a treatment, the project makes a solid case for a historical update.

This collection is full of fine music that merits attention, but as a career summary, it falls short of the mark.
