Yung's debut is unflinchingly bold and as confident as you'll find. The verve and brashness on display on A Youthful Dream is counterweighted by maturity and tenderness, making this an album to drink, dance, fight, forget and remember to all at once.

Haunting, intoxicating and crystal clear, the record is both sad it’s over and excited that things haven’t even begun.

Their debut comes off as lacking cohesion at first; then you realize it’s supposed to sound that way.

When Silkjær traces his vocals over the lead guitars, it’s enough to make “Uncombed Hair” and “Pills” stick. Otherwise, A Youthful Dream can only push through its weaker melodies and reverb through self-will.

Arguably the album's biggest weakness is that its muffled, messy production doesn't lend itself to the best songs. Still, these guys are just kids and their potential makes them likeable enough.

It’s polite punk: impossible to feel either alarmed or electrified by, but an appealingly ghostly listen nonetheless.

It has to be said that the overall experience is far from Yung's magnum opus, but it is the sound of a young band finding its feet in a meaningful way, breaking down past experiences, and creating a record that isn't restricted by preexisting ideas of youth.

A Youthful Dream sounds too much like the result of a punk group attempting to break out of the strictures of their genre without knowing exactly where else to turn.
