There's only so many times you can hear a snare and cymbal conclude a movement. Yet growing up means making a few mistakes, and to her credit, Mikano leans into every single one to learn something from it.

And even though the music often resists forming into anything as solid as a hook, Makino’s vaporous melodies have a way of creeping up on you long after the record has stopped spinning; they have a sneaky tenacity, like a dream you can’t shake, even if you can’t quite remember its particulars.
