Maybe I'm missing something, but I really don't get the scores for this one. I hear a LOT of tuneless, pointless meanderings. Loved From Here On In, and liked parts of With the Tides, but this one feels like it fell off the rails entirely. I don't hear anything on this one that would make me want to revisit it.

No offense to South fans, but this band and South couldn't be more apart. I could name 15 Doves' songs off the top of my head that would utterly kill the best offering from South. Compare "There Goes the Fear" to "Paint the Silence" and that'll tell you all you need to know. C'mon.

  1. Fans of Badly Drawn Boy's Have You Fed the Fish? and Doves' Some Cities should understand Adventures in the Underground Journey to the Stars.

    There's a newfound emotionality here. [#19, p.93]
  3. Even with a couple of clunkers, “Adventures in the Underground Journey to The Stars is without question South’s best effort to date simply because it has done more to command the listener’s attention.
