AFTER HOURS. It has been 1211 days since the release of STARBOY. This new album is special to me. The first listen already showed me that this album has stringer production, lyrics, concept. The cohesiveness of AFTER HOURS will impress you! Absolutely enjoyed it! In my opinion, this is his best album. 10/10

Sequencing is EVERYTHING. This album has incredible pacing and each song transitions right into the other with an underlying theme. The concept here is that the Weeknd falls in love, promises to leave his old self behind, then falls right back into the loop of drug use, strip clubs, lying, and cheating. He knows that he is in love and wants to stop the madness, but he also doesn't feelSequencing is EVERYTHING. This album has incredible pacing and each song transitions right into the other with an underlying theme. The concept here is that the Weeknd falls in love, promises to leave his old self behind, then falls right back into the loop of drug use, strip clubs, lying, and cheating. He knows that he is in love and wants to stop the madness, but he also doesn't feel alive or himself without it. The end result is him battling duality, and eventually nearly or even overdosing, and it isn't until then that he starts to reflect on his life and decision making. The loop then starts all over again with him promising he will change and leave it all behind for good. Expand

XO

This album was awesome, it has some of Abels best vocals, and it was Abels best album in my opinion.

Some of his previous albums tended to have disjointed production and lyrical themes. Listening to the albums as a whole didn't feel like a smooth experience. However, this album is nearly flawless when listening from start to finish. The tight, solid 80's-inspired production really ties it all together. Definitely a contender so far for album of the year.

Well worth the wait! Great mix of tracks for old and new fans. He's really evolved his sound while maintaining what made it great in the first place✌️

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While the opening track is sublime in its sound and atmosphere, After Hours immediately takes a nosedive into a long string of songs that just seem to drag on forever. This is mainly due to the overproduction of The Weeknd´s voice and extreme lack of variation on the instrumental end, leaving much to be desired in terms of anything interesting or exciting. The biggest offender on this album has to be the lyrics though. Besides a few good lines (never need a **** im what a **** needs), this album almost put me to sleep, literally, because of how little investment I had in anything that was being said. It sounds as though The Weeknd asked a group of 13 year olds to write this album for him. Overall the lyrics have no substance or feeling behind them. Many people pride this album on being featureless, but in my opinion an interesting or well timed guest verse could have given a lot of the songs more re-listenability. One good thing about this album would have to be the singles released ahead of it; they are fire. But unfortunately, the rest of After Hours does nothing for me. As a fan of The Weeknd, this is disappointing. I just don´t feel anything while listening to it except ¨when is this song going to end¨. Besides a small amount of tracks, I can´t say I will be listening to this one again. Expand

Pure Perfection and high skilled production. It starts off slow and builds in tempo and slows down again.

without a doubt it is a Grammy winning album, it is the best album to date Abel in production and vocally, it is an album with many influences from the 80's, it is a nostalgic album.

I really believe that this is his best album up to date. Musically it suits him best, I also loved the profound influence of the 80s pop music in this record. The production is truly stellar. Overall, I think that he hardly will top this album.

After Hours just comes as a confirmation of the mastermind that is Abel. Each songs top eachother and come melt into what we know as his unique style. The album is a pure bliss and bless showing how someone evolves throughout the lifestyle that is his, drugs, excess, girls but also love, dark thoughts and at end, self reconsideration. Some say you changed, but it's for the better. Thank you.

This album is very well structured and the fact that he chose to create this 56 minute story without features shows that it is a personal experience, and only he knows what he truly feels. It surely is the best album of his career, and a must listen.

Classic dark Abel music with an 80's psychotic twist makes up for one of his best, if not his BEST body of work yet period.

Great opening track in "Alone Again" (one of my favorite Weeknd track's period) but unfortunately the rest of the project doesn't quite live up to the intro. Very cohesive and reflective album, but it needed more variation and darker tones & instrumentals to make a lasting impression. I love contemporary 80s synth pop, but it's the safer choice and there are too many of them on here. 7.5/10

From front to back, After Hours delivers some of Abels best work yet. Being a huge fan of his earlier projects, this might be his most experimental and genre-challenging album yet. This, in combination with Abels incredible vocals and flow, makes this album stand out from the rest of his discography as maybe the best one yet. A true evolution of The Weeknd.

Spidery tendrils of sex-and-drugs-related dread curl around dramatic synth-pop and twinkling R&B, Yet there's also a batch of tracks that draw from bombastic, slightly tacky '80s pop - a warm, funny and wholly welcome diversion from the stylish but sterile bleakness that remains Tesfaye's calling card.
