[Almanac is] pleasantly dreamy for a while, but over the course of 40 minutes feels just a little insubstantial. [Apr 2013, p.79]

Hamilton's languid, Hope Sandoval-style cooing occasionally struggles to keep pace.... But when they're aiming true, Widowspeak strike gold. [Mar 2013, p.111]

"Sore Eyes", the only track that could have come from previous albums Widowspeak or The October Tape, halts the record some, but the rest of Almanc's 12 tracks dabble with Americana, the sounds of the '70s, and the band's already-established dreamy haze, resulting in a record that satisfies with each homage.

Overall, Almanac is a good follow up that helps cement the band's holding in the new age of dreamy folk rock.

As it stands, the rest of the record proves to varying degrees that it’s not necessarily reverb or effects that alienate--you can sound just as distant armed with nothing but clean instrumentation and an impenetrable air of disinterest.
