  1. Like all the tracks here, the sound clearly channels the past, but only to buff it with a current sheen.

That contemporary approach to Déjà Vu’s sound keeps the album from being as fun as it should be.

An album that plays too safe in its thirst for hits. [Jul 2015, p.110]

Regardless of the overall quality, it’s nearly impossible to resist the urge to dance. And in that, Déjà Vu succeeds.

Expecting Moroder to reach the heights of "I Feel Love" is, of course, futile, and yes, after a few repeated plays you may find the odd track or two that stand out from the rest, but there’s little you’ll love to love here.

The songs are weak, the sounds cheesily overfamiliar and a slightly second-rate string of collaborators (he wanted Lady Gaga and Rihanna but settled for Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears) fail to sprinkle the beats with any magic.

For the most part, Déjà Vu is rickety and wholly unnecessary.

In Déjà-Vu the stellar foundations from the early days are all there, but there are up-to-date plot twists, and a batch of very talented guest vocalists. Great to dance to, or just to elevate your mood. Ciao Giorgio! Nice to have you back.

Then I forgot about it before listening to it, coz I'm busy. Then I read some reviews and was surprised by the general lack of enthusiasm for this album. So I thought I'd better listen to it, and lo and behold, I quite like a bunch of this album. Giorgio is a legend and the tracks that are on point here are as exciting as anything else on the charts currently. Diamonds particularly is a little gem. Thanks Giorgio. For everything. Expand

The dark, pulsating sounds of bassy synths found in Moroder's old work have been replaced by sugar-coated production that, when not playing to all of the most clichéd conventions of modern-day "pop", is downright embarrassing. Moroder's brilliance has been taken over by the modern-day Top 40 music scene like a virus takes over a host cell. This album crushed me. Expand
