We can certainly add this gorgeous new album to the list of things that we take warmly to our hearts during these trouble times to help us make some brief sense out of it all.

Eric Bachmann is the most lyric-centered record of Bachmann’s career; it’s not as immediate as Archers Of Loaf or Crooked Fingers, but it isn’t built to be. The lasting impression is a deeply personal one.

These nine largely piano-based songs are sumptuous yet graceful compositions that re-establish Bachmann as a truly exceptional songwriter.

The album’s melancholiest track leaves carefully reminds his fans of how he continues to master his craft without ever compromising his essence.

these are largely piano-centric tunes, tastefully embellished with pedal steel, guitar and subtle gospel harmonies, armed with a baroque-pop sensibility that claims the middle ground between Harry Nilsson and The National. [May 2016, p.69]

It's a thoughtful and neatly crafted album whose detailed framework feels like the right fit for Bachmann's rugged, world-weary meditations.

This album is earnest and contemplative.

As frustrated as those songs are, there's also a ruminative quality to their lyrics that carries throughout the album. It feels like the product of a man finally settling down after years of travel and activity, and not liking what he sees.

These are some of the most musical and enjoyable tunes of his more than 20-year career; one that has found him shifting styles without abandoning a dedication to compelling words matched by intriguing songs that never take his audience for granted.

This album is filled with nostalgia andEric Bachmann's self-titled record, his first solo work in 10 years, is a return to form. This album is filled with nostalgia and contemplative sounds; its lyrics looks like confessional letters that Bachmann's wrote to remember himself of his past. The only problem here is that the record, that begins solid and strong, slowly sinks into itself towards the end, losing part of its appeal.

Best Tracks: Belong To You, Mercy, Masters of the Deal.
