We can certainly add this gorgeous new album to the list of things that we take warmly to our hearts during these trouble times to help us make some brief sense out of it all.

Eric Bachmann is the most lyric-centered record of Bachmann’s career; it’s not as immediate as Archers Of Loaf or Crooked Fingers, but it isn’t built to be. The lasting impression is a deeply personal one.

It's a thoughtful and neatly crafted album whose detailed framework feels like the right fit for Bachmann's rugged, world-weary meditations.

These nine largely piano-based songs are sumptuous yet graceful compositions that re-establish Bachmann as a truly exceptional songwriter.

This album is earnest and contemplative.

As frustrated as those songs are, there's also a ruminative quality to their lyrics that carries throughout the album. It feels like the product of a man finally settling down after years of travel and activity, and not liking what he sees.

They are varied, introspective, and primed for repeat listening.

A much louder and more straightforward effort than the previous self-titled album, incorporating background vocals and much larger instrumental variety (especially on the vocal backing). Despite the divergence, this is patently Eric Bachmann and is eminently listenable. Higher highs and lower lows than the previous album (and Crooked Fingers), but in sum, the high-points are superb and the lows are still enjoyable and reflective.

"0" and "1" ratings? Seriously guys? Further, you guys might want to put in some study time on grammar, capitalisation and punctuation. I'm pretty sure these reviews were written either by 6-8 year-olds or by non-native English speakers -- if not, God help us.

This album is filled with nostalgia and contemplative sounds; its lyrics looks like confessional letters that Bachmann's wrote to remember himself of his past. The only problem here is that the record, that begins solid and strong, slowly sinks into itself towards the end, losing part of its appeal.
