Watching this band evolve is pure joy. And with budding rumors of a second 2019 release, King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard seem to be continuing to push boundaries even further.

This time around, the Gizz's experiments have resulted in a compelling macrame of blues, rock, electronica, country and more besides. [Jun 2019, p.90]

Fishing For Fishies encapsulates many of their musical charms, foregrounds their deeper lyrical concerns and also shows they don't need to rely on gimmicks to get their point across. [Jun 2019, p.25]

Fishing For Fishies is their most accessible and immediate album to date.

Fishing for Fishies is the freest the band have sounded in a while, and the record is all the better for it.

Once again, King Gizzard deliver a record that lives up to their high standard even though it (mostly) is free from ambition and drama.

This thirteenth album finds them starting to sound like a band who deserve the billing [at Alexandra Palace]. [Jun 2019, p.85]

Closer ‘Cyboogie’, the cheesy, sci-fi-inspired lead single from the LP, is by far the most tepid of the set, as if marking the roll of the end-credits and a collective sigh of relief. With that being said, do not doubt that King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard still know how to kick ass.

Solid record. Not as progressive as their other records, but man does this album slap. It's a solid 42 minutes of pure fun. This album may notSolid record. Not as progressive as their other records, but man does this album slap. It's a solid 42 minutes of pure fun. This album may not be for everyone and if you don't like it the you'll probably like one of their other albums, although I do recommend giving this one a chance. Full Review »

Fishing for Fishies is an album that makes you want to dance throughout. This is despite the fairly dark tone for a lot of songs lyrics, which creates a cool contrast. Although the band explore some new sounds (such as the electronic Cyboogie, the sound of which MUST be explored in an entire album). However, there are some songs which were slow burners for me (for example, The Bird Song), and others which i would never pick to listen to (*cough* Acarine *cough).
