It crafts an atmosphere of quiet terror that also just happens to be a flawless sonic extraction of this very moment in history.

Reznor’s letter paints Ghosts V: Together as hopeful and Ghosts VI: Locusts as fearful, but the moods evoked by both are too richly layered to just dichotomize the two records along such bold lines. Together contains more than its fair share of excruciating suspense (the incessant siren-like wail of “Apart,” for example).

Ghosts V: Together offers us the tranquillity that we’ve been searching for during the quiescence of being on lockdown, and the ability to truly switch off for an hour, letting ourselves be guided by their eerily calm production whilst we pretend that the world isn’t actually going up in metaphorical flames before our eyes.

Part 1, ‘Together’, is a collection of music more soothing than balm. Spatial beauty is the order of the day.
  5. Mar 27, 2020
These eight tracks are big, bold, dynamic, and show a particular mastery of modular synthesis.
  6. Mar 27, 2020
The songs are spacious with gentle buzzing, humming, and exhaling drones that slowly evolve, complementing often pretty piano music.
  7. Apr 28, 2020
Of the two, Ghosts V: Together is the one to help lift spirits and calm the soul, a welcome escape from the tension and paranoia of the real world.
