Jul 21, 2021This easygoing, smooth, and poppy record stands tall next to their finest work and only comes up a little short because it lacks the one or two killer songs that make their best albums really pop. Still, it's a nice addition to their catalog and perfect for fans of loud but not too loud, wild but not too wild, modern rock & roll.

Jul 22, 2021Despite the label hopping, the independent releases, the decade of time spent away, Wavves still hasn’t changed much.

Classic Rock MagazineJul 13, 2021An album full of lo-fi pop-tinged melodies sugarcoating a bitter centre. [Summer 2021, p.86]

Jul 15, 2021Wavves have created their most varied collection so far.

Jul 13, 2021Even when Wavves tread some familiar territory, the nine-song album is so short and peppy that it whooshes by like a refreshing ocean breeze.
-
Jul 16, 2021Hideaway could perhaps have done with a few more leftfield moments, then, because while it’s breezy and over before you know it, that’s largely because the majority of it is in one sedate speed setting.

Jul 19, 2021This band lives or dies by its hooks, and in truth most of Hideaway’s are only OK. They’re straightforward to a fault, and short on those small, sometimes barely even perceptible deviations from expectation that distinguish a sublime hook from a routine one. Williams’ greatest strength and weakness as a songwriter is that he always follows the path of least resistance.

Jul 16, 2021Short and sweet at nine songs, a few struggle to stand alone.
-
Jul 13, 2021Wavves are no stranger to this smooth-to-rugged combination, and on Hideaway, the mix feels like a familiar cocktail recipe that mostly hits all the right notes.

UncutJul 27, 2021The fuzz-heavy pop-punk he was making back then still echoes loudly here but by connecting with producer Dave Sitek, the material also sounds crisper. [Sep 2021, p.35]
