Love-burnt and ambitious, Drake has produced something better than its predecessors, but without the fallback of crowd-pleasers, it is hard to see it standing the test of time.

‘Honestly, Nevermind’ is an unexpected elevation from the bland trap, R&B remakes and Drake’s melancholic attitude to love we heard last time around. He doesn’t quite shift the latter as much as one would hope – the album is as tiresomely woe-is-me as anything he’s ever done – but the house sound has at least given him the creative boost that his recording career has been crying out for recently.

Honestly, Nevermind therefore offers a weird combination of the unexpected and business as usual. ... There is something really admirable about Drake’s desire to reach beyond the music his audience expects, and to do it well. You just wish he would apply the same restlessness to his persona.

Drake breaks no new ground here, and retreads the same tales of love and regret so many times that the songs bleed together. If you just want background music for making love, this is your album. If you want to have your imagination captured by fantastic tales or be taken on an emotional roller coaster, don’t bother. There are no highs or lows here. We’re on medium the whole time.

"Honestly, Nevermind". My thoughts exactly when I hoped this album would be at least a decent Drake project. The album sounds like a 52 minute"Honestly, Nevermind". My thoughts exactly when I hoped this album would be at least a decent Drake project. The album sounds like a 52 minute version of Get It Together. The production is dry, the bars are extreme cringe, and the delivery is flatter than a board. This is easily the worst Drake has ever been. The only thing saving this album from a 0/10 is the final track which, while pretty generic, was much better than the rest of the album. Drake must've lost a bet in the NBA finals with the Celtics and this was their punishment for it. Full Review »
