A tonally and emotionally dynamic set of of originals that touches on compassion, perseverance, and divine intervention. [Jul/Aug 2021, p.137]

I Be Trying hits the sweet spot and when the players deliver the goods during the smoking hill country blues of “Keep On Pushing” everything else seems to slip away as Cedric Burnside confidently carries on traditions while successfully injecting his own spin on the genre.

I Be Trying sounds as stark and untamed as a field recording, belying the perfectionism with which it was made. [Aug 2021, p.24]

It's even more tightly coiled, its motivational and cautionary messages immediate and often terrifying, its roots as ancient as the rolling landscape around is native Holly Spring, Mississippi. [Aug 2021, p.86]

While this is far from anything that may land on commercial radio, there are just enough compositional moments on Burnside’s finest set to push it a little closer to widespread acceptance while maintaining the tough, raw foundation of the uncompromising music that came before. And… you can dance to it.

This is a great listen all the way through! I just threw it on because of the meta score on new releases, not knowing the artist or the genre,This is a great listen all the way through! I just threw it on because of the meta score on new releases, not knowing the artist or the genre, and it is fantastic! I actually like "Step In" more than the title track.

    Definitely recommend.
