I Love You Like a Brother is the type of catchy, kinetic album that’s natural and effortless.

A fierce and incredibly fun debut full-length LP.

I Love You Like My Brother builds all sorts of these clean bridges, and though Alex Lahey’s world springs from small images and clean sentences, it says a lot with very little.
  4. Lahey’s debut is a confessional, confident and important arrival.

Lahey has made a record for the worst within us, and it’s awesome and powerful and liberating.

Lahey’s songs thrive on idiosyncrasies, not generalities, so it makes sense that sexuality for her would be one part of a person’s character, not the full portrait. Still, while the singer’s first full-length is consistently likable, it is most lovable at its especially individual turns.

The album's defiantly pop-punky first half touches on distance-challenged romance, self-care fails, siblinghood and her love/hate for the city of Perth--all with the characteristic witty, everygal charm. [No. 148, p.59]
