JIK really has some great music which I'm still listening to all the time after it's release.

Everything we need, water, follow god, god is and hands on are some of Kanye's best songs in a decade ever since MBDTF. The main problem with JIK is use this gospel which has good lyrics but the production value on it is terrible, it sounds disorienting and isn't good on the ears. It actually seems as if Kanye decided that the sound of an open car door would be a good idea for making a song but it really isn't, no one wants to hear that. At the end of the day, every good album has that one song you end up skiping all the time

Overall, this album is beautiful. I love it and I'll continue playing the best songs off this album for the next weeks to come. I would say that Hands on is by far the best song on this album. Good job Kanye

At first, people hated Yeezus and 808’s. Now they are considered classics. Jesus Is King will be exactly like that and only get better with age. In 5 years from now this album will be praised and be viewed very positively. This is a great album, like all others in Kanye’s discography. Definitely not a top 3 Kanye album but still an amazing record.

Only Ye can make music like this. Even when it seems like he hasn't put his all into the project, it sounds infectious, inspiring, and more artistic than most music today. While the project could've been more fleshed out, longer, etc., the fact is that despite all the pressure...a diamond was still made. And that deserves apprevtoation.

This album is insulting to Jesus and I'm not even religious. While the album is poor in its own right, it's especially poor when taken in the context of the leaks leading up to this album, all of which were better than just about any song on the final product.

However, as an objective listener, I found the album to be fun, quirky, and inspirational. This album legitimately makes me want to become a Christian.
EDIT: I just went and read the negative reviews. They are such gross exaggerations and you can really tell that most of them are not reviews of the album but of Kanye himself. Vast statements such as "Worst album ever", as if that isn't a totally transparent reviewer. Some reviewers said awful things about Jesus and Christianity....come on! Have some class!

Fast forward to 2019, and as the only celebrity of color to endorse an openly racist POTUS, and following his marriage to an amateur porn star who continually upgraded from one black athlete/celebrity to another until reaching peak levels of fame in Kanye, the state of his life is so absurd now as to be a tragedy. The collaborations are on point as well: Ant Clemons, Ty Dolla $ign, Clipse (reunited) and Kenny G. The opener is glorious & specifically targets Black audiences with it's choir use, feels like being in church on Sunday morning. I think that most other nationalities will have trouble getting into it because of their lack of experience in Black church houses. The second track sets the tone, which is, to me, a line in the sand....either you accept the new Kanye or you don't, & to me it seems as if he doesn't care either way, which makes me happy. This album creates a certain ambience & it works. The third track is for us day one fans, complete fan service from the beat to the cadence to that primal scream at tracks end. I wasn't feeling the fourth track at first, but upon further listening, it's my favorite song on the album. Eerie, but beautiful & very smart. There is no bombast or wasted opportunity on this record. I love it. Excellent use of sample on the fifth track. I wish he would have kept the choir on the sixth track, although I'm a fan of Ty Dolla $ign. The excellence continues on the seventh track, a beautiful testament to unity & healing. I'm really feeling how much Kanye has grown listening to the lyrics chosen. Track number seven begins with a beautiful, well known sample, leading to 'ye making the song cry, so to speak. The great Fred Hammond appears on track number eight, 'nuff said. Track number nine is excellent for a couple reasons, namely the re emergence of long silent ex member of the Clipse, No Malice, who doesn't waste a bar. The final track reminds me of how DMX used to end his albums, with a prayer. I can't believe how much I love this album. It's uplifting, spiritual, & all about love. Yeezy season approaches... Expand

This album is great. There are two songs where I feel the pacing is off on certain parts, but this album is overall a great work of art! There are two songs where I feel the pacing is off on certain parts, but this album is overall a great work of art! I enjoy it and multiple songs from this album are now on my all-time favorites list. Ye is fervent here like never before and you can feel he's coming straight from the heart so strong you cannot ignore it. --And I don't want to. Songs such as Closed on Sunday combine music with clever lyrics to create a true auditory experience.

Most of the songs in this album are ones you can really feel as you listen to it. Usually I only buy individual songs, rarely do I purchase an entire album. This is one of those rare circumstances where I bought the entire thing because it was just that good.

Some people have complained that this album does not have fully fleshed out theological ruminations. But that's not what it's meant to have. New and non-Christians can enjoy this and, besides, Ye is a new Christian himself. But tbh "Jesus loves me" is a very deep, commonly known song. Anyone who says otherwise has not explored the depth of that revelation. My point? You will get whatever depth you wish to from the album. But forgetting that weird critic on a metric that's inapplicable to the album, the music itself is well-made and certainly worth purchasing.

Horrible... The way this album was written and named feels like he was Christian is whole life but the way it's presented feels like he just joined the faith yesterday.

Fantastic. Really enjoyed listening to this.

A little to short though. Not a big fan of the trend of making the album to short.

I really enjoyed the album. This is an album only Kanye West can make, and no one else.

Obra coesa e conceitual, a aclamação da minha parte não vai faltar. Amém Kanye West

Not many redeeming qualities throughout this album. Some moments of inspiration or impressive production, drowned and layered in horrible lyrics and a totally incohesive project. Save for 2-3 songs at most, there’s little replay value.

Some of the sounds are unlike anything I’ve heard in a rap / hiphop or gospel song. Favourite track is ‘god is’. This is sound of the Christian church a 100 years from now. What Kanye accomplished for hiphop / pop music on 808s he does for gospel music w/ this song right here. In fact he achieves this w/ this entire album. I can see the live tour being lit af! Imagine the choir on Selah live! Kanye is a genius at setting the stage for a live performance such as this. Overall a project delivered in true Kanye fashion. This will be on rotation. I might even go to church more often. Who knows.. Expand

Upside - it's only 27 minutes of mind numbing Jesus worshipping gospel crap.
Downside - You'll never get those 27 mins back.

While the album seems too short, and to many, the religious lyrics and theme might be unwanted, this is a man who after many years of struggle seems to finally be at peace, through his faith. It is different from his previous albums but songs like Selah and Follow God are some of his best creations to date. With my first listen through the album I was disappointed by the short length of the project but after a few listens it grows on you and I can simply say I have fallen in love with this latest addition to the awe-inspiring and amazing discography that this man has created.

For context, I am an atheist and have never been much for religion as a whole. But even if you do not believe in any god or specifically this one, the amazing production and sonics that he offers are nothing short of incredible. There is however more to be desired in terms of the lyrics.

All in all a refreshing addition to the ongoing story that is Kanye West and his music career.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. At first i didnt dig this, but after a few listens i really like this cut. Personally i find at step up from Ye, but not as consistent as KSG and Daytona (production wise).

Being a christian european i relate to the lyrics, but the production makes it available for everybody.

My favorite tracks: Selah, on God, God Is, Jesus is lord.

Kanye's misfires are more interesting and risk-taking than other artists greatest successes.

It's his weakest work but.... the album feels honest, sincere, and constructed with real authenticity and focus. It reflects where he is now as a person and artist and embraces the flaws, idiosyncrasies, and creativity of Kanye as he is at this place in his life. Always interesting - and a great

It's almost impossible to think that this same guy made MBDTF. The album is really pretentious, some songs are boring and lyrically, it's just weak.

His reunion with frequent collaborators belies a rich history of discovering and championing new voices. This ostensible distance from which Kanye preaches reveals King’s true tension: Kanye, like Kendrick on DAMN., is asking for our prayers, while also distancing himself from our hands and our mouths. And it doesn’t work. ... He has artistically lost track of his audience and himself in its midst.

He’s hung up on Jesus rather than pneumatic women. It’s hard to tell if that’s an improvement, but it doesn’t seem like a regression either. ... An album with zero fat, dense in at least three senses, two of them positive. [Dec 2019, p.60]

As with every Kanye album, there’s some magnificent production on a majority of “Jesus Is King” courtesy of Pi’erre Bourne, Timbaland and Boogz, among others. ... Kanye just seems like he’s in his own world; disregarding what’s going on around him. Other times, Ye’s writing delves into eyerolling contradictions and ego-driven intentions.
