MOTS7 encompasses many genres of music, displaying pop, rock, hip hop, trap, R&B and EDM influences, which makes the album so fluid to listen to, probably their most multifaceted album so far. Performance wise, BTS have brought a new scale to music/dance performances with this album, with Black Swan, On (the kinetic manifesto), Dionysus, Boy with Luv…It really is too bad that covid stopped them from performing these to a live audience in stadiums. The MVs have also been well thought out and the artistry is at a whole new peak. If you look closely, you can see the shift in MV and performance quality in mainstream music ever since BTS brought something so refreshing to the table. It is only natural other artists try to be as efficient and creative, they can only feel inspired by their pairs. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Map of the Soul 7 is one of their best albums to date. With the variety within the album and the production behind it, BTS outdid themselves with this release. ON is such a powerful anthem that really sets the tone for the album, adding their global collab with Halsey (Boy with Luv) and adding ballads such as Jamais Vu, Zero O'Clock and We are Bulletproof: the Eternal make it a rollercoaster of a ride. They also included solos within the album that really makes the members shine both individuals, as a group and as separate units (e.g. respect - RM & Suga, Jamais Vu - Jin, Jungkook & Jhope, Friends - V and Jimin.) It was an album made for the stage and showed how BTS has matured and grown both musically and as a group overall. Expand

Map Of the soul is one of the albums that I consider as a favorite for the complexity it brings not only from its lyrics but also from the history of its name.

Listening to the album in order is an experience. Starting off with Persona's introspection, and finishing off with the serotonin-filled Ego left me emotional. Each solo song from each member brings a unique style into the mix but doesn't make the album lose its feeling of cohesiveness nor does it detract from the story it tells.

It’s a bit more mature but not as dark as it seems.each member has a story to tell about their experience of fame and the the hardships they endure while becoming international record breaking super stars. My personal favourite is “UGH” by The BTS Rap line (RM,J-Hope, and SUGA) in this song they diss their haters by comparing them to upper class people who look down on those who do not conform to society’s norms .Those people make the “ugh” noise when look down on others. This song is kind of like another way of calling people who don’t understand/ like them “boomers “ . The beat from this song goes HARD and so does their flow and genius word play.this song is quite different from the others on the album which have a softer more cheerful vibe. Interlude: Shadow, Black Swan, Louder than bombs, ON talks about their struggles as artists and with their art giving introspective view and solo tracks like "Friends" talking about their friendship throughout the 7 years, "Moon" about relationship between them And BTS army. "Inner child" is about making peace with your younger self which also drives back to Jung's work.. "My time" is albout the group's youngest member who was a trainee since 13 years old and reflects back on himself as artist and as an individual throughout that time. "Filter" is Jimin's different take on himself with a Latin poppish vibe to the song . Ugh! is a powerful rap song directing towards those who throw their unnecessary malicious anger towards others. It rebels against this typical social construct.
Zero'clock means rebirth and is a comforting song to those who are buried in the hustle of life and want to breathe a little. "We are bulletproof: eternal" is a soft ballad with how they have finally come towards making peace with themselves after all these 7 years along with their fans. "Outro Ego"is about combining your ego self with shadow and persona and trusting yourself and accepting all parts of you."Respect" is another powerful rap song criticizing social stereotyoes of "respect"

There are moments when they call out their haters, but there are moments where they profess their love for the friendship they built inside the group.

Some of the things that made me a little disappointed with the album were the amount of lyrics in English, but that's soemthing we can put aside because with the brilliance of their diction and playful manner with words it almost goes by unnoticed.

I really enjoy how they managed to showcase a bunch of geners and still make a cohesive album, even if some tracks weren't my favorite (some of the solos) I know why they were placed on the album.

For me this was a great step forward from the pop-y mainstream generic made for the american market that was MOTS: Persona. The time it took for it to be released was worth it.

For a non-English album, BTS delivered one of the strongest Korean Pop albums worldwide. Accompanying the poppy dance-music sounds are the raw and emotional lyrics that are mostly written by the members themselves. Overall, it is a solid body of work from the Korean superstars.

Inédito, increíble el sonido es fascinante y te hace vibrar con energía. Simplemente me hace tomar las riendas de cada camino, a como también me hace sentir que puedo tomar el mundo en mi mano.
    Increíble álbum.

The lyrics and messages in each of their songs take you on a journey and make playing the album in one go effortless. There are several songs that hooked me in and are on heavy rotation even right now but make no mistake, every song is in my go to playlist except for the ON remix. Black swan, outside of it’s beautiful choreography is so enjoyable to listen to. It has lyrics that I have found myself relating to and sing along to now. Once you delve into the lyrics, you realize they are sharing their fear of losing their love for their art, which is music. This would be akin to dying for any kind of artist. They convey their struggle of trying to survive and keep that love alive. ON is an ode to their debut and a earlier release about keeping to ones dreams. I also enjoyed the solo tracks the members did with my favorites being Shadow and my time and the group songs outside of the previously released ones are of course We are Bulletproof: The Eternal, black swan, louder than bombs and the unit song I enjoyed the most was UGH!, if you’re into a harder hype rap song, this one’s for you. The point I took off was because I feel that the remix of ON with sia was unnecessary as her voice was integrated into the song in a meaningful way. The placement of the remix also took away from the play through of the album and it did let me down as it’s the last song, this should have been We are Bulletproof: The Eternal. Overall it doesn’t take away too much from the absolute joy I get from the album, just becomes a skip. I highly recommend checking this out if you’re new to BTS. Expand

Map of the Soul 7 is by far BTS' most lyrically and musically best on their vast discography next to Love Yourself Tear. Having different types of genre—from pop, slow dance, trap, ballad, hiphop where they made it to a point to transcend their message in a engaging way is a thing that is hard to find nowadays. I also believe BTS are successful because they always try to be different and explore a lot of things that will lead them going out of their comfort zone; and it has been prosperous. Expand

A full-length album by the South Korean powerhouse, BTS. The tracks artistically showed the ability of the group to cover various genres while they talk about their journey as artists themselves. Sonically, this album caters to all, and lyrically a genius creati9n of relatable stories.

What a diverse compilation of songs! MOTS:7 is one of BTS' most personal albums yet, with so many stories and messages that reflect their own lives and growth both as guys in their 20s and artists. A very candid look at where they are NOW. So, so proud of the boys for this album. It's amazing, but I expect nothing less from BTS!

You feel the whole range of emotions, joyful elation at the beginning, ebbing into ruminating melancholy as you approach the pinnacle of the album 'Black Swan'; from there you move towards an overwhelming feeling of hope and loss and happiness in a beautiful mix of reflective, personal songs. This album does so much right, well produced, intriguingly layered, the lyricism is equal to some of the best songs released to date; and the sound design is full without overflowing. There where certain moments that took my breath away; Yoongi's Interlude: Shadow explored the dark side of fame and popularity in a grimy, dark and intricate track, whilst the title track ON explored a new sound I never expected, distinct, upbeat: it is an anthem. As much as I think each individual song is good, the weaknesses come with the amount in this album, around halfway it becomes distinctly more 'typical' in terms of 'boy group pop.' From Zero O'clock forward the album moves away from exploring something new and into exploring the past, both lyrically and in terms of sound. Sadly although highly personal songs clearly aimed towards opening up to fans where all distinct and deep, it lost me. This album is perhaps four or five songs to long and the inclusion of the previous EP was perhaps unnecessary. In the end this album leaves you feeling complete, it is a wonderful edition to an already excellent discography. Yes, it has its flaws but nothing that leaves you discontent simply the addition of a few to many (well made but) unnecessary songs. Expand

I appreciate BTS attempts to join up concepts, genres, instruments, and meta-music (such as diverse and large groups of people involved) in the production. Those are worth-following process. Most of the tracks are greatly polished and meeting market demand, not to mention to be performed at the upcoming stadium concert. However, although I love each beautifully-made tracks, there are at least 2 things bother me about this whole-ness of the album.

The first is by how the message draws out through the entire album, in which feeling too positivistic. Yes, the message is "to face your shadow and acclaim your individuality". But that one single message is repeated on and on through out the tracks. If only 'Black Swan' and 'Interlude: Shadow' did not have that a glimpse lyrics of "sweet cause-effect promises", they two will serve better as the album's abyss, and work as a contrasting point.

That brings me to the second thing. I wonder why they chopped the sequence of tracks in a "logical" classification. As a result, it brought me to a clear distinction 1/3 of Persona part, and the rest 2/3 is heavier on the struggle-to-the-shadow narratives -past self and conflicts also shadow too, right?-. If they mix the tracks a bit, putting up Dionysus and Jamai Vu at the second-third part, and maybe we can have that dynamic "cinematic-like experience" of the album.

However, like I stated above, the tracks are beyond expectation. It is hard to point one favorite. I like their old-school 'Ugh' as big as '00:00'. 'Intro: Persona', 'Interlude: Shadow', and 'Outro: Ego' each have strong character, polishing each individuality of the rap line. To that, V's lyric in 'Inner Child' and Jin's in 'Moon' both tries to possess it, but in my opinion, still not really emerge in terms of musicality. But if we listen to 'Louder than Bombs', 'On', and 'Black Swan', I still hope I can witness for the evolving musicality of vocal-line in the future.

By the way, somewhere in the past I've comment on BTS aesthetics. Recent Commentary Film provided by Hitman Bang "Dialogue" also dig-up about it, in which brings me back to Bang PD's speech on late 2019 (or early 2020?) award speech, and his interview with TIME magazine (2019). Bang PD highlights BTS's stance on social issues, which arguably, have been the main resource of BTS aesthetic production. We still remember old 'N.O', 'Spring Day', 'Fire', 'Run', etc. In the MOTS:7, if we think about those Bang PD speech, interview, RM and Jin speeches... an ARMY or two can relate 'UGH' and 'Respect' that serves social critique to malicious comments that brought two K-idols tragically pass-away. Yet, international media most probably not aware of that. As a result, most media criticize the album as to more into self-inward. It's OK, it still match with psychological concept at the background, yet, considering how social-issues are one great pillar of mozaic-of-identity of BTS aesthetics, I hope them and BigHit at large would address this significantly, especially since they are desiring Grammy as a bonus.

On the last note, overall, I enjoy every tracks in this album. Thank you BTS for this easy to enjoy, not even boring, and a track list hype me up doing my thing. I give 7 to the score; RM's lucky number and his desired score, as I believe BTS will keep evolving better and better. Let's see. :)

As a whole, the strong but not particularly unruly “7” is less sure-footed than “Love Yourself: Tear,” the group’s last full-length, from 2018, and the first K-pop album to debut atop the Billboard album chart.

Persona lacked the natural fluidity and chicness of their best music. Those problems aren’t exactly mitigated here, since most of those songs appear on this album too, but within this new context, they feel like a flashback before the saga continues. Many of the new songs are better about balancing Easter eggs for day-ones with new entry points for more casual listeners.
