It’s pretty special too. ... If a sense of discomfiture has run through all Sault’s albums – they challenge, seethe and weep, confound expectation, change tack abruptly – there is never a sense of a misstep.

Delivering powerful, confrontational lyrics and messaging in the context of angular, innovative R&B.

There are barely any duff Sault tracks. [Sep 2021, p.26]

Total absorption reveals that this is simply part of Sault's ever-expanding and increasingly colorful tapestry, no slapdash addendum.

SAULT carry on commenting about those still-relevant issues with vivid lyrics about injustice wrapped in captivating rhythms.
  6. Once again, SAULT demonstrate the power of words and just how impactful music can be. It’s impossible not to feel affected by the stories being told. But, despite ‘Nine’s sadness, SAULT channel optimism and hope for a brighter future into their songs.

Masterful in its softness of touch, Sault know when to apply and relieve pressure; at moments it can be intense, yet others are bathed in a beatific R&B halo.

With NINE, they add new layers—of mystery but also flippant humor—to their sound.

This ephemeral experience that plays as an exploration of spontaneity sounds like a well of uncomfortable emotions floating to the surface, limp.

It 's a very different project from Untitled, and I cannot let go of it. Sault has been one of the greatest discoveries I had in the pastIt 's a very different project from Untitled, and I cannot let go of it. Sault has been one of the greatest discoveries I had in the past year. Maybe it'll grow a little more in me. Maybe not. All I know is that time is ticking because the band agreed to LEAVE IT IN OUR HANDS FOR 99 DAYS ONLY. UNFAIR.
