The record’s constant dive through history often comes at the cost of consistency and a solid sonic identity, though, for the most part feeling more like a scrapbook of ideas in transition than the work of such an established act.

A transitional work perhaps, but whichever fork in the road he follows next, you feel he’ll continue to adapt.

The album’s title represents the remarkable possibility of finding freedom from the outside world by letting loose on the dance floor and experiencing liberation in a crowd of strangers. Bear certainly takes the album there at several points, but in the limited scope and cerebral slant of these too-brief songs, he loses that outer peace.

Overall, Outer Peace is a half-hearted attempt coming from an artist who’s testing a series of rough sketches in real time.

The moments of nu-disco are superb, yet are weighed down by the sometimes-cringey segments of auto-crooning.

Incredible production, a meld of the future and past sounds for Toro Y Moi.

The future of Disco funk has peacefully arrived. There is almost no space for Toro Y Moi to improve on his latest release "Outer Peace". ThisThe future of Disco funk has peacefully arrived. There is almost no space for Toro Y Moi to improve on his latest release "Outer Peace". This album gives you abundant urges to move your every limb. In freelance Toro takes us to his outer space, which is actually in the confines of a computer. The highlights of this album are tracks 1&8. Track 8, "Who am I" takes me back to the days of rollerblading in a rink yet emotionally leaves traces of daft punk melodies in my mind. it is sad to say this album came out 18 days late. Maybe Toro's New years resolution will be to drop something as satisfying as this next NYE. Full Review »
