As a whole, Queens of the Breakers holds fast to hope and shows both a continuation and an evolution for one of the most creative bands out there today.

The expansive, heavenly textured, rambling blues jams that make up a good part of the record preserve some of the improvised spirit they were created in.

If Queens earns The Barr Brothers serious consideration for year-end lists, it would not be surprising.

Their third and most mature album-length studio effort to date, the instrumentals, vocals, lyrics, and compositions are more exploratory, dark and adventurous than ever. The themes are ambitious and dark, and suggest those of grief, loss, heartbreak, love lost and love kept, and political tragedy as experienced by a global, free society. The acceptance and embrace of contradiction as inevitable is a revelation that is put to glorious/hideous effect, and the result is cathartic, challenging, and rich beyond words. Truly a one-of-a-kind artistic achievement worthy of great praise and multiple close listens.
