It would all be so much anodyne chart mulch, but Anne-Marie has something of a plain-speaking everywoman image too. Some tracks here connect a little deeper, offering common-sense snapshots of unglamorous lives.

Not quite a greatest hits then, but not short of a few crowd-pleasers either. [Jun 2018, p.106]

The highlights on this project are the glimpses of musical experimentation, but unfortunately the album doesn’t have enough of these to really shine.

At its best, the album is a selection of polished and inoffensive pop songs, but at its worst, it’s forgettable.

The first half of Speak Your Mind is undoubtedly the strongest; showing Anne-Marie no one-trick pony when it comes to infectious, dance-worthy bangers.

The title promises a hit of authenticity, but Speak Your Mind supplies only affectation.

This is a strong debut with such fantastic singles such as Then and 2002. Anne-Marie has done herself well.

Especially, in "Perfect", the lyrics are cliche and uplifting which isn't inherently bad but its just so overdone. The lyrics just come across immature. Definitely skip the deluxe version (Breathing Fire is just...) There are too many producers, sometimes it works in an album (see; Isolation by Kali Uchis) but most of the time it doesn't. Overall its an okay debut, there are a few highlights though like; Alarm, Machine, Ciao Adios, Cry, Full Review »
