If her songwriting occasionally misfires, churning out stuff that’s indistinguishable from every other indistinguishable song on the Radio 1 playlist--the Rita Ora feature Doing It is a case in point--it’s frequently dead on target.

Refreshingly free of focus-grouped compromises, Sucker is certainly full of character. It's just that the character is a cartoon. [Feb 2015, p.114]

It's a shouty, attitudinal set that connects Ke$ha to Britney Spears and Cyndi Lauper. [Feb 2015, p.75]

So much of the album winds up repeating itself thematically that despite the giddy sugar rush one feels when overloaded with hooks like these, a surprising amount of the songs here don’t have that much staying power, especially during the disc’s final stretch.

Sucker is better when Charli has a bite.
  6. Sucker ends up monochromatic, but that only helps Charli hone a persona. If the one here doesn’t exactly make her the new Joe Strummer, it does suggest a British answer to Kesha. She’s the likable brat of the hour.

However, the sound is drastically different from an album she released only a year ago... This review is based on personal taste, (obviously)but my ears just aren't digging the sound of her current ERA....True Romance was plenty dancy and fun without sounding obnoxious like Sucker does. Sorry Boo, but I couldn't really stand to listen to the new stuff. I Immediately went to re-visit True Romance which appeals to my ears much more... Thanks, but no thanks.. Hope to hear better from her in the future because she is really talented. Full Review »

Terrible album and I can't believe that the girl who made it released wonderful True Romance JUST A YEAR BEFORE. Sucker is dumb, childish andTerrible album and I can't believe that the girl who made it released wonderful True Romance JUST A YEAR BEFORE. Sucker is dumb, childish and I can't choose what I find more embarrassing, lyrics or music. This album is more cheap and cheesy thań Avril Lavigne mixed with early Britney Spears. Full Review »

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. the Charli XCX's music can be defined as a pseudo rebellious punk-pop. This may work for the unwary young people but for me it's just crappy.

"I don't wanna go to school , I just wanna break the rules "

"You said you wanna bang (bang, bang)
    Well
    **** you! Sucker!"

    "Gold coins everywhere
    Dollars up in the air
    It's a billionaire's love affair
    Gold coins out the window"

    "Get your boyfriend's car
Come and pick me up, oh
Let's take it for a ride
    What trouble can we find?"

"Let's get started, pool side of the party
    Rolling Stones on my phone
Hangin' in yo bedroom, feelin' like we're rock n' roll"

    frankly ???
This album is the worst thing I heard in years.
