The Best of the Black President is simply a stellar collection that bests any two-disc collection out there as it represents the continued evolution of Fela Kuti's music from the 1960s through the 1990s.
  2. One of the rare cases of a best-of being an artist's definitive statement, it's not hard to explain that Fela's other albums simply couldn't have fit enough of them to qualify.
  3. Through music, Kuti received redemption and power. The Best of the Black President gathers his best singles in one place. Here are the strongest moments of a musician that never played a single unnecessary note.
  4. So while two straight discs of Fela is exhausting, it's probably the most suitable way to digest him.
  5. While the song selection (including classics like the brass-balled superfunker "Zombie") is killer, recording info would help. The music speaks for itself, but presidential history deserves better.

Hypnotic masterpiece from a real orginator. The more you listen the more you hear, you can almost feel him walka, walka, walka, amongst his people.
