Kae Tempest fully opens up on This Line Is a Curve and it continues to blossom with every listen.

More aesthetically modern and approachable than some of their other records, though no less potent, this is Kae Tempest at their best.

May well be Tempest’s most enduring work to date.

Tempest’s turn of phrase is constantly arresting.

Rife with feelings of ephemeral isolation and deep personal anxieties, they have realised a new wave of modern storytelling, forging ‘The Line Is A Curve’ as an answer to an open call for honesty.
  7. The process of letting go has resulted in a record on which an acclaimed voice can explore human emotion with more breadth and depth than ever before.

A more intimate dimension to this incisive chronicler of beleaguered times. [May 2022, p.88]

Its fragmented nature is tied to its accessibility; each track stands alone on its own merits, albeit at the expense of the record as a whole. The more oblique lyricism allows for the possibility of wider interpretations here, where previously they have felt out of reach.

The Line Is a Curve functions as a therapeutic exercise in resilience and repetition.

What ‘The Line Is A Curve’ teaches us is that Tempest is still capable of tremendous feats of lyricism and dynamic storytelling; if its inconsistency feels a little frustrating at times, it’s perhaps testament to the flow that bound together previous records with such success.

Kae weaves spoken word style poems with influences of hip hop and electronic music. Her delivery is intentional and intense, which fits the general mood of the subject matter extremely well.

Lastly, the features. They are so nicely used on this, and they each meld perfectly in to her world. The Kevin Abstract feature is what got me to check this out in the first place...

I'm Giving this a light 9 just based on sheer artistry and the care that clearly went in to the project.
