The often awesome The Second Album is more concerned about opening doors than just preserving the Latyrx legacy.

Inevitably, it doesn’t stack up with their singular first album (which does have nostalgia on its side), but Latyrx sounds motivated and creatively rejuvenated.

Having two creative minds such as Lateef and Lyrics Born working side-by-side is nothing but a boon to hip-hop, however, and the hope here is that The Third Album and The Fourth Album and many more are soon to follow.

This isn't the Latyrx that won over backpackers and Cali-funk fans back in '97--far from it. It's not much of a reunion, that's for sure, and sixteen years is a long time to wait for a sophomore slump.
