As a standalone document, this is a gem of an album.

This is a joyfully optimistic set of musically candid, emotionally transparent, effervescent anthems in waiting. With this album, Spielbergs have shown that sometimes good things do come to those that wait.
  3. The most promising debut of the year so far.

On this very nice debut, Spielbergs are a tough band to pigeonhole, boasting quality writing and a hooky approach that transcends whatever sonic space they occupy at a given moment.

At 12 tracks, the record feels a touch bloated, which is this reviewer scraping the barrel desperately seeking a criticism so as not to be accused of simply writing a press release about the album. You'd be missing out if you chose to ignore this release.

This Is Not The End doesn’t so much land on its feet as delicately drift into its aptly morose, pop punky pose, assured without a scent of try-hard, an almost jarring naturalism.

Spielbergs don’t deal in complex subjects, and they sing plainly enough that any hook heard on the first chorus can be joined on the second.

The songwriting does suffer as a result of their walloping, impatient joy, but as Spielbergs prove, some instant gratification is always called for.

A treat for the kind of sensitive souls who remember how good emo was before it mutated into the eyeliner-and-skinny-jeans brigade. [Mar 2019, p.89]

Its highlights pick up where the EP left off, the likes of Bad Friend and 4AM fizzing with energy and seemingly perpetually on the brink of collapsing into thrilling chaos. They're less sure-footed when they try to broaden their palette, however. [Mar 2019, p.118]

They might not always move in straight lines, but as odd as Spielbergs can sometimes seem, they're also capable of great things with whatever they fancy turning their hands to. [2 Feb 2019, p.55]
