90 minutes of sensitive, surreal lyrics and wailing wig-outs which make J Mascis sound like Julian Bream. ... You'll enjoy it. [Feb 2019, p.90]

We're Your Friends, Man proves that they (he?) haven't lost a bit of their vision and skill, and while it's hard to say where one should start investigating the Bevis Frond's massive body of work, this will give you the lay of the land just as well as most of their albums.

Another record by the Bevis Frond, and another long, acid-fried blues? That’s a gift.

Across the ensuing 85 minutes there are sufficient six-string pyrotechnics, pop hooks and lyrical urgencies to shame an artist a third his age. [Jan 2019, p.88]

This 20-track spread, ending on caustic wig-out You're On Your Own, would make a worthy farewell. [Feb 2019, p.108]

Saloman and company are certainly happy to have found a groove. The songs have a sunny playful spirit even when a song's topic suggests serious contemplation. It can be a little goofy. This is the sound of one hand clapping.

His blazing guitar leads contrast with the sombre tone of the 20-track We're Your Friends, Man, the fragile-voiced Saloman haunted by third-age problems. [Jan 2019, p.19]

On somewhere around the 23rd album, English icon Nick Saloman and friends deliver another under-the-radar piece of epic brilliance. Saloman isOn somewhere around the 23rd album, English icon Nick Saloman and friends deliver another under-the-radar piece of epic brilliance. Saloman is a master songwriter, penning melodies that mix classic British rock with elements of pop and bits of Celtic folk music—then revving it all up with his spectacular guitar riffs. His voice has aged well, becoming stronger and more emotionally expressive over the years. And then there’s his guitar: I’ve said this before, but there is no truer statement: If you’ve never heard him play, he’s probably the most talented guitarist you don’t yet know. If you’re familiar with his guitar ability, he’s likely among your top ten players. Yes, he is that good! Add this to his compositional skill, and you have one hell of an album. You might hear references to artists/bands like Elvis Costello, Jimi Hendrix, Be Bop Deluxe, Nick Lowe, Arbouretum, Robyn Hitchcock, The Kinks, Jethro Tull, Wooden Shjips, Dinosaur Jr. “We’re Your Friends, Man”, like almost all Bevis Frond albums, is simply better than I could ever make it sound. It captures all the elements of classic British rock with a creative flair that’s dripping with sincerity, talent and pure psychedelic rocker mentality. Hopefully, you already know this. If not, it’s a discovery that you’ll cherish for the rest of your music listening life. Highly Recommended. Expand
