There's a real depth to an album that is brimming with inventive, clever hooks and individualism. [Oct 2014, p.114]
  2. Scruffy melodies informed debut album 'A Thousand Heys' and they return here ('Vapour Trails') but Jack Cooper's homegrown themes are interwoven expertly.

A really strong album that shows Mazes growing in just the right way, adding some maturity and substance without sacrificing the things (great songs, youthful energy) that made them worth hearing in the first place.

It would appear that every step he takes is another step in the right direction; his is a remarkable talent worthy of wider recognition.

On Ores & Minerals, there was a measure of spaciness that’s been lost here, perhaps surprisingly considering the circumstances of its birthing. If that album was a leap, this one is a step, and a gingerly one at that.

You never feel as if Wooden Aquarium lets up, and whether that's something that the band have picked up from having to cram as many songs as possible into their quick-fire live sets or just a nod to their long-held influences, it works very well indeed.

Both songs [Vapor and RIPP] provide interesting interludes in an otherwise pretty average album.
