This is an instantly lovable, consistent and convincing debut, brimming with razor-sharp melodies and subtly expressed technical prowess.

The fact that this album is full to bursting with ideas means there are almost certain to be missteps, but the likes of acoustic-led snorefest ‘Father / Son’ are thankfully few and far between on this bracing debut.

Taken as the debut album from an entirely new band, which it should be, Wovenwar shows great promise, even if it all feels a bit familiar.

It's a solid first salvo from a band who clearly have the chops to make a serious stir. [Sep 2014, p.105]

I was a fan of As I Lay Dying and wasn't sure what to expect from this new band. I thought that there would at least be a few filler tracks but was pleasantly surprised to find that there is not a song on this album that does not rock. I you're a fan of alt metal / hard rock (or just good music in general) you should definitely check out this band! Expand

Really surprised with how good this album really was. I wasn't expecting much. This is a very solid and powerful debut album. Great jobReally surprised with how good this album really was. I wasn't expecting much. This is a very solid and powerful debut album. Great job musically the only thing I didn't like in some parts were the vocals. In my opinion they were a bit off at times but still great in their own right. It's a pity really that this band will have this "As I Lay Dying" ghost following them because it is a different band with potential and it kind of takes away from them. Very pleasant and interesting album to listen to. Looking forward to new material from Wovenwar. Expand

As I Lay Dying was one of the bigger metal bands of their time and Oh, Sleeper's Shane Blay has a great voice that powers aggressive rock without having to shriek or shrill. Several cuts are excellent here, like the album's lead single "All Rise", but "The Mason", "Profane" and "Tempest" are examples of maintaining great momentum through the core of the band's self-titled debut album. While the results of Wovenwar's first effort as a band is absolutely positive, not every track is created equal. Sometimes I found myself a bit on the "okay I get it, next song" mentality, like on "Slight of Shore" and "Moving Up". This is a very positive start for Wovenwar and listeners should look with anticipation on a sophomore album, when the band and singer have more time together to really hone their approach. Expand

Despite this I was fairly impressed with the band to go on with a new vocalist and form a new band because Wovenwar is completely different. I really like Shane Blay's voice on this album, I think it really suits the music. There are several songs throughout the album that are killer, but its not consistent enough to get a higher score from me. I am looking forward to another album from Wovenwar in the future if they can continue to improve. I highlight the tracks All Rise, Moving Up, Profane and Ruined Ends. Expand
