Definitely not the best album of Gaga, but the mesmerizing tracks such as 'Venus', or the powerful emotional severance of 'Dope', you may find the album to overall be a nice addition if you're looking for a type of dance music that's somewhat out-of the box with it's mixture of 70's-like tunes and Gagas' powerful voice.

A consistently good album. No duds. The "worst" two songs are Donatella and Fashion, which I wouldn't even consider "bad." It's rare to have a cohesive pop album these days; they're usually filled with duds left and right or stacked horrendously with the highlight tracks first. Overall, as perfect as a pop album can get in today's industry.

I'm a Lady Gaga fan and I love all of her albums, but this one is my favourite by far. There's no track that I avoid while listening to it, even thought some of them are growers, and we have Jewels and drugs, some short of experiment with R&B that maybe it's not the best song, and I could get bored of it... but it has a very interesting sound and rappers from the first line. So I recommend this album, it's the only pop singer who offers something different, innovative, and creative but being pop and catchy (in the best way) at the same time. Hope you enjoy it as I do. As for the rest like Jewels and Drugs and Dope I didn't exactly like them, you know what, I hated them, I couldn't pass half of them with out switching to another songs quickly. As for Aura, I was disappointed, why?! I never thought that Lady GaGa would make a song that I would like the demo version more that the official version, the demo version was way better, I mean, it was perfect, why did she scr*w it up?! Both songs have the exact chorus and the enigma popstar is fun part which I loved the most, but the voice that sound like,uh, I don't how to describe it. Oh and I forgot about Do What You Want which belong to the great songs of the album category, it fun and I can jam to it, and her voice match perfectly with R. Kelly's voice which made me love the song more than I thought I would.
summary: very good album, but some songs shouldn't have been ever recorded and some shouldn't be changed. I believe Lady GaGa can do better, and I'm looking forward to her future works. Well done.

And one of the main reasons is definitely its informality of sound in the genre of pop and yet great and perfectly designed catchy melodies and hooks, which stand out and prove to lead the listener to a nearly psychedelic state of the spirit. And all that complimented with lyrical sweetness, joy and rage. Rage that mesmerizes the mind, a trip from planet to planet, condensed with sex and pain, with wisdom and immaturity.
It is a matter of fact that there are generally two ways to navigate through the work of Lady Gaga a pop and an art one. And that is no phenomenon of this album. One could simply unleash memories and emotions while listening to the galactic pop of Mother Monster or one could delve deeper into the meanings and milestones that she intricately embeds into her work. Jeff Koons or the Bible (in Born this Way) there is no emptiness of sense, of message in her work.
ARTPOP celebrates the achieved freedom of Born This Way. 'I own the world, we own the world" she declares. And most certainly this direct statement has its effect.
The only drawback that actually stands out is the production. And not that it is in any way bad. The feeling of the album is however a bit overproduced and a bit overqualified in terms of pop power. What I mean is that some of the tracks (Swine for instance) would have been more emotionally charged if it wasn't for the final sound of them. But perhaps that was the intention of it all to belong somewhat together.
A rap song irritates the ear at first but later becomes pleasing and fits in its place.
A 2 year pause proves to be beneficial to the album. If I could name it any other way ARCHPOP for its quality.

It is what it was intended to be: a fun, catchy, and very danceable album. It's not nearly as thematically complex or musically diverse as its predecessor "Born This Way," but Gaga stated from the beginning that this was intended to be an album with less maturity, and one that could make you dance from start to finish. But even so, there is something else there. It's not hollow pop, her messages are there if you look for them. I think the whole idea behind "artpop" is that Gaga isn't just about the fame, or the love, or the money, but about the message she gives and the people she inspires. Her Artpop--her message--could be anything, as she says in the album. I don't think people realize this. Her songs are still just as catchy as they were in "The Fame." Gaga has a pure gift for melody, and especially hooks, both melodic and lyrical.
I'm not a very big fan of pop at all. Too many artists doing too much of the same thing and too many of the same sounding songs. When I listen to a Gaga song, I always know it's her. You can just tell how involved she is in her music, and how passionate she is about it, and each and every song shines with her personality. Gaga is a luminary. Her music inspires people to truly be themselves, and this album is absolutely vital in that. While it may seem like a downgrade from the complexities of Born this Way, it's not. It's simply just another direction.

I like that cosmic electronic atmosphere and the energy of the album. It's like all her albums mixed together. Those songs are so free. There are artists whose albums sound almost the same. Gaga's albums sound completely different from one another, but they have this Disco Gaga spice. I think the main purpose of this album to have a complete freedom and party, to forget all the insecurities and all the sad ballads, just have a complete techno raver pride of your identity! When listening to the whole album, in the end listening to GYPSY it makes you feel like a winner, like you’ve gone through so much and you just want to cry, but then that techno beat makes you feel so proud of what you’ve achieved and it just suddenly takes you to whole another dimension. It is very good, because that‘s how Gaga viewed it. That was the purpose to make it not so serious like her previous albums. It still has a big message, but not everyone can understand that, it‘s more about the artistry! ART and POP can belong together. I like the effort she put to work with Marina Abramovic and Jeff Koons, they really inspired her and teached her so many things and how to control her Aura. Different methods to free her mind. When watching her interviews and when she explains ARTPOP it is exactly what she has done, she represented what she wanted so perfectly. Not everyone has to like it, she made ARTPOP because of music, because of artistry, not because of money, sales or haters. Speaking of VENUS, Greek mythology and Ancient Greek Dance It represents the beauty of being a woman. the beauty of women. I think it's brilliant and still no one will ever make something like gaga, she's unique and individual, you can't compare her to somebody. She is where she is, in her place and somebody is in their place whether you like it or not. I respect her work, It's clearly something new and different, It has another energy (of love). Those who complain that her performances becoming worse and worse, I think you just don't get the main IDEA and purpose of this performance. You know she‘s not just another „POP ARTIST“ or whatever you call it. She‘s PERFORMANCE ARTIST and that is much more than you think, that is different and comparing her to Katy Perry or Kim Kardashian or whatever you name it, just doesn‘t make sense. If she wanted to create different kind of album with another message she would have done that. All in all, this is just my opinion and you don't have to accept it and agree with it. I prefer listening to Rock’n’Roll but that is what I had on mind since listening to ARTPOP, Gaga is the only artist that makes me love POP Music, and of course, I do like oldie but goldie Pop music, but just definitely not nowadays pop music. I see most of these critics reviewing Lady Gaga as a person and they don't really review the music objectively because of this. I love this album. This album is really amazing! It's very nice to see Gaga growing up in the industry. She delivers what she promises, most times. The highlights from this record are G.U.Y. that, for me, has something that recalls the power of Bad Romance (at least it remembers me), Gypsy is as powerful and incredible as The Edge Of Glory and Hair are, and many more that would take me a lot to write. It's fresh and I had a great time listening to this album, and it keep getting better! Gaga is very talented artist and we'll hear a lot about her for a long time. Expand

It's slowed down by Dope, a haunting tune that is one of her most personal to date. Then picked back up again in Gypsy, a tale of a traveling woman who needs to balance love and career. For a normal singer album called ARTPOP would have been something great but not to the standards of GAGA. The album has to be full of hits and great songs as GUY, Gypsy or even Venus, but he brings something amazing, something very different from other albums released, it differs from Katy ,Miley or Britney because ARTPOP presents high level of quality compared to others.

This is not art and is not pop.
Simply the worst album of her career. The songs seem leftover The Fame Monster and Born This Way.
Definitely not a good album. Might work for the dance floor but it is not pleasant to hear.

The album is entirely boring. There is a vague proposal to introduce a concept, something that remains vacant until the last sound. Lady gaga has been better and seems to be falling into oblivion, no longer knows innovate and its image is saturated.

From start to finish, it is evident that Mother-Monster worked her ass off, both as a vocalist and a producer, she polished all 15 tracks to true 'Gaga-ness'. I must thank her for that. But I feel, to be completely honest that the lyrical content is not up to par, with what Lady Gaga is completely capable of.

I feel that this is a great dance album for all of Mother Monsters 'Little Monsters', from 'Aura' to 'Swine'. Then after that its starts to get slow. From 'Donatella' to 'Dope' it slows down completely, not saying they are bad songs, just not the songs you jam to at a party. Then with the last two songs 'Gypsy' and 'Applause' Gaga tries to bring back that dance party back and sort of achieves it. (Very smart to place 'Applause' at the end of the album btw!)

Must download: 'Aura', 'Venus', 'G.U.Y.', 'Sexxx Dreams', 'Do What U Want (ft. R.Kelly)', 'ARTPOP', 'Swine', 'Gypsy' and 'Applause'

I thought she was losing her creativity but I see she keeps finding freedom in the music and transmitting it to who's listening this album. ARTPOP is a mash of electronic sounds which is hard to listen. Though some of the songs are incredibly catchy! (GUY, ARTPOP, Gypsy, Venus, DWUW) On the other hand, I think that Gaga recorded two the worst songs of her career (Jewels n Drugs & Swine). ARTPOP is again one of my favourite songs on the album simply beacuse of the importance to detail...you can hear gaga whining like heee heeee heee in the middle of her verse very retro again never got the lyrics in the beginning thought it was just a writers block kind of moment for her but now i like it... "the melody that you choose can rescue you"... she talks about letting your heart choose your artistic decisions and that will rescue you like ARTPOP. Swine ...whatever.... fun but not **** like schiesse or judas. DO NUTELLA .... loved this song from the time i heard it ....so **** bold. mindless therefore fun. beautiful detailing in
production. Fashion! reminds be of bowie but with nicer sounds around a bowie song... very simple song from lyrics perspective very mature from production side makes you wanna sing along . oh **** forgot about sexxx dreams... did you hear those **** beats ?? its like a 80s pop songs very pure no adulteration... lovely music . mary jane holland ...."cause i love love cause i love love" ..i only like that part otherwise i think its a bit over produced.

Dope has no reason being in this album... i hardly listen to it.

gypsy makes me feel emotional at times very nicely written song ...very bold too ...imai mai iam mai mai a gypseegypseegypsee aii ....very nicely and bravely written song .. sometimes a little springsteen esque like her edge of glory. but nice.

applause is one hell of a diva track... so **** artistic in its construction...never can another pop artist who is so commercial too come up with melodies , experimental beats and sounds like gaga .

but yes her lyrics didnt live up to being inspired from marina or jeff or watever but her synths and sounds are pathbreaking like always ... artpop should have been called POPARTY ... hahah something like that... pop + (art )+party?

Opinions. More than anything else, this album has done a very good job of extracting people's opinions, from those who love it, to those who would never allow their ears to experience this again. Lady Gaga released 'Artpop' in the same year Katy Perry released her own new material, while Miley Cyrus spearheaded her own attack on the charts.

The one thing connecting them all? None of them released their full potential.

Gaga manages to emerge as the most confident artist, with 15 very contrasting tracks, but it's a hit-and-miss affair. What cannot be denied, however, is her voice. Throughout tracks 'Mary Jane Holland', 'Do What U Want' and 'Swine', her soaring and wildly differentiating vocals adds a vital layer to the entire project, and her ease at transcending between vulnerable and outright vocal beast can only be admired. 'Jewels & Drugs' is particularly interesting, with TI, Too Short and Twista lending their talents to the song, which proves successful. 'Artpop', the title track, leads the listener down a dark path, it's off-hand beats, aided by Gaga's voice, gently eroding their expectation of the same old song structure, and is a personal favorite of mine.

'Aura', 'G.U.Y', 'Donatella' and 'Dope' fall short in this company, and this is where my biggest concern with 'Artpop' arises. For me, these songs prove just too experimental, with not enough of Stephanie Germonotta's own personal stamp. Her voice, and her direction, seem buried, at least in comparison to the other (great) tracks, while 'Do What U Want' evokes no emotional response for me whatsoever, regardless of her voice.

Back to the point of this review: Opinions. You will listen to Artpop, and you will either love it or hate it. There seems to be an unusually strong negative response regarding this album, but it depends on each individual's taste. In my view, Gaga still has a way to go before she releases an album that will truly revolutionize music, and the mediocre tracks on 'Artpop' prevents her from doing so.

ARTPOP is a good album, but it trips a little bit as you listen throughout the album, and it is awkward.

Some songs like "Jewels n Drugs" and "Fashion" do not belong in the album and feel like placeholder songs. Here's a song by song review:
Aura - 9 - A strong opening to the album; the production is fantastic in this song, despite the lyrics not making that much sense.

Venus - 7 - If Venus wasn't produced by Lady Gaga, I would give this song a lower score. But due to her getting hands on and making a 'not bad' beat, I have to give her credibility. Overall, this song feels like it belongs in the 90's or 80's.

G.U.Y - 6 - The beat feels generic in some parts of the song and the lyrics aren't her best, but it is a song you can dance to.

Sexxx Dreams - 8 - This is Lady Gaga's worst album, lyrically, but the production is better than her last albums. The song is also not your regular generic pop song and brings in a great 80's vibe.

Jewels n Drugs - 3 - Skip this song. It sounds exactly like the other so called 'rap' songs and the artists featured on it do very little effort to save this song.

MANiCURE - 8 - After JND, this song is refreshing and while not the best song lyrically, it is a great song to dance to,

Do What U Want - 9 -While also not that good lyrically, it (sort of) conveys a good message and the beat is great. Different from your usual pop song.

ARTPOP - 9.5 - One of the best songs on the album. This song sounds like something from The Fame era and upgraded a bit with one of ARTPOP's selection of beats. The lyrics also have some meaning, as she tries to explain what ARTPOP means.

Swine - 8 - Taking a drift to the more EDM side of this album, this song really goes in. With a great beat, but some not so meaningful lyrics, this song is nice and is different from any song so far.

Donatella - 6 - This song sounds like a more dumbed down version of Swine. I do have to give her some credit for taking a risk and making a song about fashion and designers, which isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Fashion - 4 - While Donatella had great beats and production, this song takes a BIG step back and feels like a generic pop song, just with some odd lyrics. I do not know why she hired David Guetta and Will.I.Am to help make this song, as she was fine with her other producers, (Zedd, herself, etc.).

Mary Jane Holland - 9.5 - The last noteworthy EDM song on ARTPOP, it makes a great finish, before heading to the slower songs. This song sounds awesome and the lyrics are not bad at all. It is way different than any song that Gaga has done so far (besides Bloody Mary).

Dope - 7 - This song does deserve some credit for trying to switch genres very quickly, but it does not execute it well. This ballad also has some okay lyrics.

Gypsy - 8 - This song sounds like another ballad at first, but then switches to Dance. This sudden change is the best part about this song, and it is executed very well.

Applause - 5 - While I was expecting a great song to finish this album, I was instead greeted by a generic pop song that you would hear on the radio. The lyrics are nice though and it feels like an okay ending song,

ARTPOP is good depending on which genres you like. If you like EDM/Dance, this album will be great to you. If you're looking for ballads, ARTPOP is probably not your cup of tea. Overall, this is an good album, but disappointing. Hopefully, Volume 2 will be executed better.

Lady Gaga. What can I say? Her songs packed with unoriginality, no real instruments and MY GOD, THE LYRICS JUST MAKE ME WANT TO SMASH MY HEAD AGAINST THE WALL.

There's a couple of decent songs in this album. That's it. That's all I can say. She really disappoints me with this ARTPOP thing, she talked big and gave us a trashy album.

Lady Gaga is very talented, I seriously love every song Lady Gaga has ever crafted, I have all of her albums! This is the quality of talent we need more of in the music industry.

Comparing to her previous works, ARTPOP stands alone. Lady Gaga wanted to make it like a performance (with an opening act and applause in the end), but I think that she could make it a little bit better by bringing more ART or musical styles she's famous for.
Of course, there are some songs that show us how hard she's been working the past 2 years prior the album's release (G.U.Y., Sexxx

Of course, there are some songs that show us how hard she's been working the past 2 years prior the album's release (G.U.Y., Sexxx Dreams, DWUW, Artpop, MANiCURE, Swine, Gypsy and Applause); but the other part of what was meant to be the story of "How ART Met POP" is like an old Hollywood cliche, and sometimes you find yourself asking what kind of ART she's bringing to Pop Culture in these songs.
Yes, no one is perfect and even the greatest people make the silliest mistakes, but when we talk about such a revolutionary artist like Lady Gaga, we mean that she is a perfectionist and always tries to make everything brilliant (she's said about it hundred times).

So I hope that ARTPOP: Act II will be in same matter that The Fame Monster and Born This Way were.

This album was a big let down. It did not meet my expectations. Although her efforts to correlate music with art is very commendable, it was futile, as she was able to express but not deliver very well. Her past albums were fantastic, this one brought uniqueness in the industry but thhe music itself was not captivating.

There's nothing good to be said about this album. It's so goddam awful I don't even have words to express.

Lady Gaga isn't only overrated, but a crappy artist.

This album is a piece of crap. The sounds in most of the songs are annoying. She's just trying to stay relevant because no one pays attention to her anymore. That's why it flopped I guess. Even her clown costumes already bored the media. Good Luck Gaga.

Probably her worst album, but still not bad. It's too noisy for me, but I like songs like Dope or Do What You Want.

ARTPOP is definitely an underrated album. What I like about this album is how different and fresh-sounding it is. There is a lot of EDM influence, which is sort of funny since almost ALL pop songs in 2016 are EDM influenced... ARTPOP may have just been ahead of its time. I love these songs because they are very dancy and sexy. The lead single, Applause, is an amazing song and will be one of those songs everyone will remember in 10 years. Other amazing tracks on this album include Mary Jane Holland, Venus, Donatella, and Dope (the best pop ballad of the 21st century honestly). Maybe this album didn't do so great sale-wise, but it sure as hell is a good album. Expand

The melodies here are fine, they do a job, but nothing backs up Gag's Warholian rhetoric or scales the barmy heights of Bad Romance. [Jan 2014, p.116]

While it’s stronger than the messy ‘Born This Way’, Artpop feels little more culture-quaking than a good collection of fun, silly, well-crafted pop songs.

This is two albums in a row now that were basically a bit boring, and she needs to sort it out soonish please.
