Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay does everything its predecessor did right, but better, and with more style, flair, and conviction.

Cradle Of Filth have created a gothic horror that makes Mary Shelley's Frankenstein look like The Emoji Movie. [23 Sep 2017, p.52]

As a whole, Cryptoriana: The Seductiveness of Decay is a welcome step further ahead from Hammer of the Witches in its force and economy, and even with its missteps it's a stronger album for it.

There’s little ground they haven’t covered before, whether that’s the old school Steve Harris gallop of The Seductiveness Of Decay or the choral interlude of Achingly Beautiful, but no one does it quite like them.

The music has remained familiar, as Dani has one of the most idiosyncratic and immediately recognizable voices in metal, but the perpetual whirlwind of members has made every Cradle of Filth album feel unique, and Cryptoriana is no different.

After Hammer my expectation was raised, and then Dani said in an interview that this album will be a bridge between Hammer and Cruelty, I didn't believe him because with every album they drifted further from their early days, but it was after I listened to the album that I knew Dani was not exaggerating.
this album is a blend of everything brilliant about cradle. I wouldn't skip one single track of this project. Not one of its songs are standout tracks but as a whole, i'd rank this album high on my fav cof releases next to Cruelty and Dusk and even their more harsh sounding offerings like Principal.
I expected something between Hammer and Darkly but this took me by surprise, best cradle since Midian days hands off. Brutal, Harsh, Melodic, Romantic, Black, Exterme and of course with a gothic atmosphere throughout. Dani is on top of his game with his vocals as well as his lyrics, Ashok is wonderful, Firth is splendid, (don't remember the name of the other guitarist), Martin is the best Drummer Cof can have, and of course Lindsay fits perfectly with her haunting vocals as atmospheric keyboards.
Excitement and joy throughout this one hour journey through Victorian era.
    10/10 imo
