The great news is that Dreamers are Waiting is very much in the excellent category.

Finn senior’s prescient lyrics, sugarcoated with melody for ease of delivery, help make Dreamers Are Waiting both tart and timeless.

An album that offers familiar comfort even if it doesn't precisely sound like any previous Crowded House record.

Dreamers Are Waiting is a very welcome return for a band who have been away for far too long.

Dreamers Are waiting is possibly the most Crowded House-sounding album crowded House have made since their Crowded debut. [Jul 2021, p.83]

It doesn’t just retain the intimacy that made them so cherished, but makes it their signature sound. They exist on their own island now: a place to take refuge from the rest of the world, when it all becomes too enormous and terrifying to bear thinking about.

If some listeners don’t feel quite the immediacy that connected them with some of Crowded House’s early material, Dreamers Are Waiting is an album that rewards with multiple plays as a whole.

Even if little here sparkles as splendidly as House’s prime era, Dreamers Are Waiting is quality, thoughtful pop from the mind of a guy who knows his way around a terrific tune.

The result, though not as immediately catchy as the band’s earlier, now classic records, is still a solid collection of jangle pop

Perhaps too slick for some, the Crowded House catalogue has never been afraid to be open. Maybe that’s a fault, but there’s certainly nothing wrong with a slice of innocence and songwriting purity in a landscape so smothered with irony.

Often feels more afterthought than addition. On form, however, few write or sing human frailty with Neil Finn’s poise. [Jul 2021, p.25]

Finds their former highs trapped behind glass, blurred and beclouded like the past year has been for all of us. [Jul 2021, p.86]

Not really a Crowded House album, more a rather bitsy Finn Family record. Curiously, it lacks warmth, passion and emotion, all things CH and Neil Finn are renowned for. Not a patch on Neil Finn's outstanding 2017 solo album, Out of Silence. Avoid. Full Review »
