  1. Every mean word delivers, and with cameos from Tyler the Creator to 50 Cent it's as if he never went solo.

The LP's best moments are when Pusha digs deeper.

Although some of its strongest cuts already appeared on its predecessor ("My God," "Alone In Vegas," "I Still Wanna"), Pusha ultimately leaves anticipation for his official solo introduction.

Producers Shawty Redd, Nottz, and A-Traxx all contribute bottom-heavy stunners while West, Diddy, Juicy J, and Young Jeezy add the right amount of outside influence, making this just a tad more "fun" than your usual casket drop from Clipse.

He's never too sappy, too apologetic, or too mean-spirited.

Fear Of God II is the lean, rousing listen that its predecessor wasn't.

Its quality is mostly a testament to Pusha's connections and his ear for beats, but the rapping is sufficiently competent enough that the album never drags, which is less of a backhanded compliment than it might read.

Let Us Pray isn't a classic, but it puts Pusha T on the short list of rappers capable of delivering one. [#39, p. 75]

It's isn't exactly a new album or even an entirely new mixtape, but taken at face value, Fear of God II is a solid collection of tracks.

He wastes half his solo debut dishing out second rate filler. Thankfully, his true colours shine through on I Still Wanna, Raid and Trouble On My Mind ... although they're frustrating glimpses of a potent artist coasting too readily on past glories. [Jan 2012, p.99]

The gloomy beats prove best suited to Pusha's own sinister drawl. [Feb 2012, p.104]

Even though the Neptunes have long gone off the boil, their contributions are so much better than those of the other assembled "star" producers. [Jan 2012, p.96]

    Mostly though, Pusha seems lost.

Most of Fear of God feels like detached, competent, common-denominator, major-label hip-hop, which would be fine if we weren't already aware what he's capable of.
  15. Nov 9, 2011

Let Us Pray offers a familiar Scarface tableau, but Pusha and cast (including a demonic Tyler, the Creator on "Trouble on My Mind") paint his fantasies with requisite fervor.
  16. Jan 18, 2012

    Unsteady and muddled.
  17. Nov 9, 2011

Pusha is too reserved to pull off the revamped sound--he's more Raekwon than Rick Ross, better suited to quick-tongued storytelling than to bombast.
