Fossora is filled with Björk’s reliably lush, sensual instrumentation and poetic lyricism, at times playing like a thematic and musical companion to its predecessor. ... Across its delectable slate of richly orchestrated songs, Fossora’s best tracks are also the most personal.

It’s a very buoyant creation - perhaps her most levitous release since Debut - that concerns itself with ancestry and legacy.

With her 10th album, Fossora, she is grounded back on earth, searching for hope in death, mushrooms, and matriarchy, and finding it in bass clarinet and gabber beats.

An album of reinfatuation and reaffirmation, ‘Fossora’ is invigorating in its drive, if there’s little of real surprise here; hard as the mushroom-gabber beats are, if you’ve heard Pluto or Mutual Core, you won’t be shocked.

If I may make up a word of my own, it is utterly bjorkers, and all you can do is dig it.

It's heavy stuff, but reliably gorgeous musically. [Nov 2022, p.82]

“Ancestress” is one of the most accessible songs on Fossora, not just for its mortality-confronting emotional narrative, but its more recognizable song structure. The album’s other highlights get mileage out of their heavily multi-tracked and harmonized vocals. ... Where Fossora missteps is in how it pulls all of its disparate musical influences together.

Bjork's Mushroom Album proves to indeed sound and feel like you have become one with the mushroom people living inside her head. A bitBjork's Mushroom Album proves to indeed sound and feel like you have become one with the mushroom people living inside her head. A bit inaccessible to other projects, Fossora possibly is her most immersive album since 2007's Volta. The album opens with the political, goofy "Atopos" which remains as the song on the album. However, the album ends with the cute, but weird "Her Mother's House", which somehow combines the album's strongest and weakest moments to make a somehow decent song. Expand

Worst album of the year. Unless you enjoy the sound of Bjork speaking/farting over music that doesn't match up at all. Awful. Literally theWorst album of the year. Unless you enjoy the sound of Bjork speaking/farting over music that doesn't match up at all. Awful. Literally the only thing I gleaned from listening to this album on repeat for 12 hours is that mushrooms give Bjork the farts. All the songs blend together in a fecal mess. Nothing stands out at all. Like literally after 12 hours the only thing I can remember are bits of Atopos. i am utterly baffled why everyone seems to be rubbing their **** over this album. GET A GRIP. Expand
