Frisell, as always, plays for the group and for the song rather than reeling off solos. He has never shredded, but he doesn’t just shuck corn and whittle, either. Every Frisell performance is shaped with love and care, and with a near perfect balance between form and freedom. He just gets better and better. [Dec 2019, p.47]

If you're looking for music that will suit a quiet night with intelligence and style, you should certainly give HARMONY a listen.

The work to weave so much together — and do it so well — speaks to Frisell's skill as a composer. His affable, warm nature seeks to connect people, sounds and ideas. On Harmony, Frisell seems to have found just that.

Frisell is very tasteful at a time when turntables were cool, or playing rare groove funk. This is clearly more 80's than 90's in Jazz circles. And Frisell has worked with Zorn, who has incorporated ideas ranging from Xenakis, to Death Metal. It is evident Bill does better as 80's Jazz than 90's Jazz, though. Full Review »
