Apr 27, 2020High Risk Behavior is so full of hooks, personality, and humour that you might find yourself, wanting to play that 28-minute record again. It's a rare thing to want to hear a record on repeat, but rarer still is a record that you feel like you know having just heard it just once, and this is particularly true of the singles, which sound closer to 'classic' Chats than a lot of the album.
-
Apr 2, 2020In classic punk rock tradition, many of the songs on High Risk Behaviour clock in at well under two minutes; meaning that it never drags.
-
Apr 2, 2020If you’re looking for a short, fun thrill from a gang of likeable oiks with all the grace of a one-legged camel, talk to The Chats.
-
Mar 27, 2020It may not be great art, but it is exhilarating, cheerily undemanding fun, something in scant supply at the moment.
-
Mar 26, 2020‘High Risk Behaviour’ is a record that’s bound to solidify The Chats’ name as a truly unique proposition.
-
Mar 26, 2020If you’re looking for fast, lighthearted punk music in the Buzzcocks vein, look no further. With their smashing drums and Zulu Robson-esque snarl to Sandwith’s voice, The Chats suberbly capture their day-to-day life in Australia as the true inspiration for their work. The ability to translate their influence and perspective makes them a much more accessible band than most.
-
Mar 25, 2020The Chats don’t so slow songs. They don’t do sad songs. The Chats do good times and this debut is set to inspire plenty.
-
MojoMar 24, 2020An irresistibly raucous entree to their world. [May 2020, p.88]
-
Q MagazineMar 24, 2020High Risk Behaviour is about as enjoyable as the sound of bored small-town kids thrashing around with guitars gets. [May 2020, p.107]
-
Mar 24, 2020The Chats say they don't try too hard while writing lyrics, but in this case, the simpler and less ambiguous the better. High Risk Behaviour is a slam to the skull with each stomp of the kick drum.
-
Mar 26, 2020It’s hard to critique punk music. You’re judging exactly how much someone doesn’t give a fuck and how well they are at expressing that. High Risk Behaviour is an album you can blast on the highway while going 90 or one that you can watch live and get drunk and crowd-surf to.
-
Mar 24, 2020‘High Risk Behaviour’ clocks in at under half an hour which is a good job considering The Chats only have one trick, but strewth they do that trick well.
-
UncutMar 26, 2020It never gets deep. ... It's stupid, daft, and no wonder that when Josh Homme's looking for a night of goofy escapism he goes to see The Chats. [May 2020, p.26]
