This is one of those albums you'll look back on and remember the exact time and place you first listened to it. It's a record that changed the music industry forever by asking consumers how much their music meant to them. Apparently a lot, because the album went number 1 on music charts when the cd copy came out. It's kind of funny to think that this album didn't win "Album of the Year" at the Grammy's.… Expand

Physically, this album does not best any of their three masterworks (The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A), but it certainly equals them in tenacity and consideration. Moreover, what makes this album an amazing accomplishment isn't the sheer brilliance of the songs, but rather the kind of album it is, when it came in, and what it means for a band that many thought were on their way to retirement. And by "kind of album" I mean a very different kind than Radiohead have done before. Whereas much of their previous work has dealt with inward seeking themes of self-deprication, loneliness, and paranoia, In Rainbows bends much of that into something that is comparatively accessible, dealing with romantic themes, and at times... downright bouncy.
