The diversity of genres found in the album make a very good combination and in turn encompasses the essence of the artist very well.
In addition, the lyrics on the album sound very personal and it is very easy to identify with them, the touch of the artists in the collaborations feel very good in them, from their voice and the feeling they put into it. I personally think that Rm chose well

Every collab in this album has a reason, they are all connected to the stories RM wanted to tell from his 20s. The album starts with how an artist first needs to live, and be a human to create art, using legendary Erykah Badu to convey the message more convincingly, a person who has been through more and carries that belief in her life as an artist. Then it has many questionings, many things he wants to do, many disappointments and decisions he makes in the middle. They are conveyed in a way like he is thinking to himself, he is trying to decide or undecide like in a conflict. Which becomes even more apparent with the title track; Wildflower, the 9th track. The song starts with conclusion, and then the journey to the conclusion is given to the listeners. Just like how the album started with "being a human before making art", in this song too RM is trying to be human, and wants to get rid of the greed and unending desires fame brings. And while the shows he gives as BTS may seem like "fireworks" impressive but dying out quickly, he says he wants to bloom underneath all the sparkles like wildflowers, slowly, under his control only. Which is something BTS has always shared, creating a legacy and growing as humans and artists first, so this message is not surprising to fans. This desire explodes in RM cos of all the blabbering happening around him whether it be industry people or netizens or anyone else, and this explosion is given to the listeners with the powerful forceful voice of Youjeen, the lead vocalist of legendary rock band from Korea; Cherry Filter. Hearing the journey to this conclusion may feel bittersweet, the ending only brings bliss and hope for the future.
So the album has an extra conclusion made by RM, shared with us in the last track; No.2 which the name comes from "chapter 2" as in moving forward. He decides he won't be looking back and wondering if he should have made different choices, if he could have done better, or if he could have done less mistakes... He decides this version of his life and himself is the best he could get just like in "Doctor Strange" as he tells his fans, and he brings another legendary sound from Korea, Park Ji Yoon; another senior to convey the message "you will protect yourself from now on, dont look back anymore, you've done your best" in a way a senior comforts a younger artist.
Last two tracks concludes the album with "I will stay me, and i will keep moving forward only". A rare statement you can get from an artist these days especially with them sharing the real journey with this level of sincerity.
In its totality; the album has 10 different genres from folk, r&b, to pop, city pop to rock... He always gives the song what it needs naturally with no forceful sounds. He is a poet at heart, that is how he started and this album demonstrated is perfectly. And because he is the owner of all the messages in this album, he knows how each of them should be delivered which i think it is one of the reasons this album has moments that can be so relatable to a listener at some point in their lives, and become part of their lives comfortably like a "worn out jeans" as he says.
I would like to give this album a 9.9 but it deserves a 10. I would want to give 9.9 because some are saying this album is "his masterpiece" and while this album is a masterpiece of an album 100%, I know deep down as RM being a person that always betters himself, always adds something to his views, ideas, techniques and pen... I know the best is still yet to come.

As listening to Namjoon’s previous works I had some expectations. Not music wise (maybe a little), but more of what I would feel after Indigo release. Not music wise (maybe a little), but more of what I would feel after Indigo release. When listening to RM, his first mixtape, I always got a feeling of an, may I say, angsty teen. “I can prove it to you all, I have so much more to show”, something along these lines. mono., his second playlist, on the other hand, is a lot different. It does have correlations to his first mixtape with songs like Life, I’d say. But overall it’s more soft, less angry. It is comforting you emotionally, doesn’t really matter if you’re into other music genres. Someone said mono. feels like standing in a rain with a friend. It fits very well, as Namjoon is addressing rain is his friend in one of the songs.
And then we have Indigo. For me it felt like this teen RM and young adult Namjoon finally understood each other, live in the same world, breath the same air. Adult Namjoon found a peace with those different personas. Or, at least, a way to find it.
Eight out of ten songs are collaborations. Which is not a bad thing at all, as some claimed. One other artist I admire once admitted that he can express himself better through working with others, which is why he doesn’t have much solo songs. And knowing this helped me better understand why Namjoon chose to do a similar thing in Indigo.
Every artist in this album has their own style, way of living, thoughts, identities, really different life’s from one another. Namjoon managed to show color of every of these artists, but not forgetting about his own. And as Namjoon himself said, does feel like an exhibition of some sort.
For me, All Day with Tablo, Hectic with Colde and Change pt.2 prod. eAeon give off this feeling the most. The reason probably is in that I did listen to them outside of Indigo for quite some time. And in Indigo I can see their colors mixed with Namjoon’s, something very new, but familiar in a way.
Stories behind the album, lyrics and sounds, they all form an exceptional form of art. They make you feel, make you think, make you feel seen and understood. Indigo is something that will stay with you for a long time, even if not on a first listen.

Pair of new jeans, not sitting quit right at first, but as time passes become your favorite. Or an old pair, which you disagree to throw away at any circumstances. Something new, something old, something that stays with you through out your life.

Kim Namjoon knows how to write music that's for sure. The way he is able to turn his own stories into universal messages is impressive to say the least and something rare in today's day and age where music is quickly consumed. Listening to his album made me reflect on my own life and think about how to move forward in a way that is not heavy on my heart.

The masterpiece I can’t stop listening to. The mix of nature and modern culture is immaculate and I think this is just a beginning for Namjoon. Huge amount of references make me wanna learn Korean and parse every song into quotes. And of course I have no favourites here it’s impossible to choose one. And a great thing about the album is that I can listen to it day and night in any mood.

An absolutely beautiful album filled which crosses genres and sub genres, held together by RM’s stunning lyricism as he explores what it means to be himself. It’s a journey anyone who has been through their 20s will relate to. Wildflower and No2 particularly brought tears to my eyes. I’ll come back to this album time and time again for years to come

I cannot stop listening to it from top to bottom, especially that line "I wanna be a human before I do some art" that's such a meaningful line, honestly the youth of this generation has to listen to it to understand what an artist and musician is. We see the efforts of the impressive poetry he has always incorporated into his music as the primary lyricist of BTS (aside from the English songs) especially in songs like Yun, Wildflower, No. 2, forg_tful, and even in more upbeat tracks like All Day there are deeper messages to be held. One thing that always impresses me is that Namjoon pays homage to the greats of the genre that inspired him—including the legendary Erykah Badu. The fact this collab even happened is impressive and a testament of him as an artist. Still Life is a collab with Anderson Paak, another big name in the funk/hiphop community. Songs like Closer, Change pt 2 and even Lonely offer insight into things often considered taboo for an “idol” to speak of. Often in the kpop industry it is a polished appearance that they have to keep up—they always love their fans no matter what they do, they always love performing and everything about it, they aren’t encouraged to be public about negative feelings and especially are unable to talk freely about relationships or intimacy. Closer is a song that hints at finding that intimacy and being caught up in a relationship that wasn’t necessarily expected. Change pt. 2 hints at possible infidelity by the one he sang about in Closer, as well as later in the song indicates his distaste with the people who try to label him and ignore his growth as a human (something even the fanbase “ARMY” is guilty of—as old interviews and incorrect info circulates endlessly in a loop despite the many years of time since).

Lonely is a simple track but with again, a message that is taboo for an idol to sing about. Namjoon indicated that Lonely was written when he was in the hotel room during the Las Vegas concerts in April of 2022. While tens of thousands of fans gathered for the event, he felt trapped and lonely in his apartment with nothing but “memories on the floor” and YouTube and Netflix for company. Instead of being able to have fun and move freely, he had to be holed up for the same reason he was there in the first place—his fame.

The progression of Closer to Change pt 2 to Lonely tells a story in and of itself. Ultimately even in the more straight-forward and simple tracks, like Hectic being about just a busy day-to-day life full of going through the motions and just living, there’s a message that elicits feelings of familiarity and relatability. Namjoon used and blended different genres to break the boundaries between them, something he has done for the span of his entire career. In fact, he said he was nervous to write some of these songs because they reveal a side of him he doesn’t say, but wants to be honest about the different sides of who he truly is. It takes courage to write honestly about the different sides of yourself even if they might seem simple to someone else. Ultimately this is an incredible album with many diverse tracks with something for anyone.

This is the album of Kim Namjoon as an honest 28 year old moving into his 30s, not just of RM the leader and main rapper of BTS. 10/10

An alluring exploration into his interpretations of the connection between life and death in art with his personal life. He showcases an extraordinary depth in his honest and introspective lyricism and the range of colours in his sound. Stunning features that are wholesomely incorporated and blend perfectly. Some moments fall flat – Lonely is cloying, paint-by-numbers EDM-pop that doesn’t fully land. Still, Indigo is a polished collection that spans both pop and rap with confidence.
