Their breakneck energy highlights the thrilling strangeness of their structures and textures. [Mar 2017, p.40]

Live in Paris is the victory lap leaving us wanting more.

Their first live album captures Brownstein and her bandmates Corin Tucker, Janet Weiss and new touring member Katie Harkin ripping rapidly through a selection of their strongest material, the sabbatical years having drained none of their finesse or ferocity.

From the delighted cheers of the fans to the simple message of ‘merci’ from Sleater-Kinny themselves Live In Paris is the sound of band who--frequently under-rated, sometimes unjustly ignored--have found a room of their own. This is their time.

Live in Paris is a 48-minute purge reaffirming the power of that hoary rock cliché, the live LP.

Live in Paris is a live album that represents its role promoting a reunion album, but asks for repeat listens that push beyond that limited impact. This might only attract fans, but nowhere does it sound as though that was the intent behind the recording or this release.

The album perfectly captures the abrasive and raw sound that Sleater-Kinney have only strengthened throughout the years.

It's a well-deserved victory lap for the trio and ample proof that growing up doesn't have to mean losing your edge--or your anger. [Mar 2017, p.115]

With its focus on covering most of the canon and the scintillating pace that it moves at, though, Live in Paris won’t just satiate the fans--it could well provide a new access point to one of the great American rock bands for those yet to be converted.

This is a celebration, both of the group's past and its inspired present, and that is more than enough to make this a worthwhile live album.

Although the performances on Live in Paris are spot on, they don’t fulfil the promise of the concert. It can’t convey the feeling of the floor moving during the chorus of ‘Bury Our Friends’. It lacks the visual component of Tucker and Brownstein kicking and howling while playing.

Sleater Kinney absolutely explode on stage. One of those rare live albums that not only makes you wish you were at the show, but actuallySleater Kinney absolutely explode on stage. One of those rare live albums that not only makes you wish you were at the show, but actually transports you there. Incredibly tight musicianship, you can feel how much fun they are having playing together. Love the fake bootleg album art work. Full Review »
