Jamie Woon has dropped a second LP every bit as captivating as his first, and it’s hard to find any faults with this piece of work. Sumptuously slick, and with the humidity of a tropical locale. Make sure you make time for Making Time.

It's another batch of nuanced, quietly intense songs that have some degree of heartache to them.

Woon might have been expected to return with a dancefloor-focused second album, but instead he’s taken the soul road, and it sounds like a brilliant statement of intent.

Making Time is a solid album, but it's elevated even further by the presence of closing track, 'Dedicated'.

For a project Woon spent four years on, Making Time is a surprisingly breezy listen. It feels a bit slight at times, especially given the lack of variance in tempo, but it’s hard to find much fault with this collection of smart, soulful work.

Woon has, from the start, been his strongest when he lets his voice say everything that’s necessary. This might come across as traditionalist, but that is OK. With songs this good, little else needs to be said.

Jamie Woon seems to honestly prefer the slow observation of growth to the harsh, quick mistakes of an unobserved life. And yet, in the process he seems to prove the point: a watched pot never really boils.

Making Time has some really great tracks, but maybe with a little more time spent on a few less ideas it could perhaps have been a great album.

The album sags a little in the middle but there is much here to justify a nearly five-year wait.

Comparisons are all well and good, but ultimately Making Time’s strength is in asserting exactly what Woon specialises in. After so many years away, a reminder was much needed.

Compared to the rapid evolution happening elsewhere (not least from his old rival James Blake), Woon here sounds like he's performing with the safety-catch on. [Dec 2015, p.110]
  12. The prevailing air understatement doesn’t detract from Making Time, but it does mean it just peters out. Woon could have done with pursuing the harder edge of ‘Movement’ a bit more. But he does things his own way and, for the most part, that’s a very good thing.
