Norman Rockwell himself illustrated idyllic images of American life and its history, spending 50 years with the Americana propagandists at the weekly Saturday Evening Post. His best-known works used a wondrous narrative style to center comfort and simplicity: A pastoral idea, painted and personified, of the American Dream. Lana neatly cuts through that outmoded fantasy with an emphatic **** hyphen mark of irreverence, or enthusiasm, or both. As Lana revives American myths, with an empty deadpan that would make Lou Reed proud, she also exposes them. Like the Beach Boys, she’s looking for America; like Elvis, she’s discomfiting; like Dylan, she’s a trickster, and we are all potentially fooled. Expand

This album is a great step forward after Lust for Life, which was a very inconsistent album. She stays true to what makes her Lana Del Rey, but with a more straightforward production. Her voice sounds more clear than ever, her lyrics show growth and maturity, while she keeps confortable expressing her vulnerability with very captivating melodies.

The truth is, as she progresses with her music, I fall in love more with her full record label. Lana is very dedicated in her work, most people would like to give her the value that she is, people don't look for good content, they only look for silly trends and we really need change it, lana is the best in its genre and this style that he put on the album is very good.

The album is a masterclass in understatement. Every song is infused with so much melody, much of it in Del Rey's vocal lines. Her voice and lyrics are the star role here but these are backed by immaculately produced arrangements. The singles all come early in the album and while the tempo drops as the album progresses, the quality doesn't drop at all. The dreamy, druggy mood created by sounds and lyrics is something else. I'll definitely be checking out her other albums based on this. Expand

I didn't think Lana Del Rey would ever surpass her grunge-rock sound from "Ultraviolence," yet here we are. Though she is one of the most consistent artists of the past decade in churning out exceptional music, "Ultraviolence" always seemed like her magnum opus. In comes wiz producer Jack Antonoff, and suddenly "Norman **** Rockwell," despite its wacky cover art and even wackier title, skyrockets as Del Rey's best work. Antonoff certainly deserves a lot of credit, but it's not like he is the sole artist here. His work on "Norman **** Rockwell" is better than any other work he's collaborated on (including his work with Lorde and Taylor Swift), and that's because his subject is a woman who never settles for less. The lyrics on this album are as powerful, sarcastic, and biting as they'll ever be, especially when the opening line is, "God damn man child, you **** me so good that I almost said 'I love you.'" And the blend of piano ballad and soft, nearly psychedelic rock is indescribably beautiful. The title track paints a picture of a sunlit harbor with its majestic brass sound, while the 9-minute long and bold "Venice **** introduces a unique 70s rock vibe reminiscent of "Crimson and Clover" (while blatantly name-dropping the song as well). The cover of Sublime's "Doin' Time" gives us a quick break to groove before going back into the softer yet still addicting material about Lana's favorite themes: Americana, failed relationships, and hope for the future.

This is so magical and fantastic album. The production is very aesthetic, the lyrics are marvellous
This is the perfect album. She proved that you dont have to do trend music to be famous and likable. Her songs are another universe. We dont deserve her and this album!

¿Y qué decir de NFR? Lana realmente se lució y mucho mas con sus letras profundas como "hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it", haciendo el cover de "Doin' Time" a su estilo, o mostrando sentimientos profundos con "California". Norman no solo es el álbum del año sino uno de los mejores de Del Rey. Totalmente recomendable.

¡This album it’s just the best version of Lana, really mature from the others, and much more actual lyrically!

The production it’s really right too, really on point with Lana’s voice. Top songs: NFR, California, love song, cinnamon girl, happiness is a butterfly, the greatest (all the album

The project of the singer/songwriter Elizabeth, A.K.A. Lana, and the producer/songwriter Jack Antonoff, "Norman F*cking Rockwell!", is one of the best things of 2019, and maybe in the 10's decade. Every track fills you with good emotions. Soft and soulfull, the LP alternates between pop, r&b, classic rock, dream pop and aternative vibes.
    MVP: Cinnamon Girl.

Ufanista, porém coeso, com uma identidade sonora brilhante e coerente. O piano é o símbolo deste álbum, com alguns toques orquestrais, ele se sobressai perfeitamente. Parabéns Lana, for the best album of your life.

NFR was the best album of 2019! I listened to it at 3 am the day it came out and had stayed up for it on a school nights just to take a listen. didn’t regret. it made me cry, it made me smile and it made me feel a way none of her other albums did.

No words, Lana is simply perfect in her own style, something that nobody can do easy. Don't call it confort, call it personal brand.

Things inevitably drift, but beneath the surface in the best songs there is a toughness and a newfound resilience.

It's a remarkably sharp pop record that retains her fascination with pop-culture iconography and the rosey simplicity of a post-war America where classic rock and blue jeans ruled and takes them to much deeper places. ... Think of it as an hour-long car ride peeling down the highway with classic rock blaring out of the radio and no real destination in mind other than where your impulsive nature might take you.

A thematically rich record, heavy on mood and elegantly written in a way that positions Del Rey between Eve Babitz and Carole King. There are beguiling and evolving melodies underneath the spare piano and acoustic arrangements. [Nov 2019, p.24]
